Job description

CIVIL DESIGNER – Kelowna

VDZ+A is once again hiring for positions in our Okanagan studio. The growth in the region and an influx of public infrastructure projects has presented the need to expand our Kelowna Civil department. This expansion, along with our established offices in Vancouver and Fort Langley, will allow us to support a growing client list with projects spanning BC and Western Canada.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting opening at our Kelowna studio for a Civil Designer. You will be joining a senior civil designer and a friendly group of landscape architects and designers in our office at ONE Water Street. You will work under the supervision of our lead Professional Engineer in the Vancouver office as well as the Kelowna office Director and Landscape Architect. You will contribute to the design plans for City of Kelowna recreation parks and support on other Lower Mainland based work. The role will require an understanding of site servicing and grading. AutoCAD Civil 3D skills are an asset as you will complete both traditional civil work and parks work. Field review is a part of every well-rounded designer’s career – field experience and MMCD contact administration experience will make you a top candidate. This isn’t your typical civil work – expect to work on a variety of recreational projects like splash parks, sports fields, playgrounds, and community centres.

WHO ARE WE?

VDZ+A is British Columbia’s first landscape led civil engineering firm. This means we engineer and design concurrently to produce the highest quality end user experience in the natural and built environment.

Our civil engineering department works closely with our landscape architecture and urban forestry teams to develop engineering plans that integrate seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. The collaborative approach of our three departments allows our staff to prioritize green infrastructure and stormwater management including further integration of bio-swales, detention/retention systems, and infiltration designs. The work completed within the department is much more than site servicing and road cross-sections (although we do that too!) – be prepared to work on sports fields, splash parks, playgrounds, community centres, and schools!
