We are looking for an Environmental Planner to play a key role in processing development applications, enforcing environmental bylaws, and shaping policies that protect and enhance our natural environment.
In This Role You Will:
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
University graduation in an appropriate discipline plus a post graduate degree in Community or Regional Planning or other related areas supplemented by some professional planning experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Required Licenses, Certificates and Registrations
Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia.

We’re seeking an Environmental Planner to help shape forward-thinking policies and lead sustainability initiatives that will influence the future of our city.
In This Role You Will:
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Master’s degree in resource management, environmental planning or, environmental science or discipline related to the work with considerable experience in an environmental management environment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Qualification as a RP Biologist, and work experience in a planning environment would be an asset.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Qualifications of this role involves mainly policy related project work that includes reviewing and updating environmental and climate policy and programs, the planning and managing of public engagement processes, updates to various long-range planning strategies, and a minimum of five years of policy planning experience.
Membership or eligibility for membership in the Planning Institute of British Columbia and Canadian Institute of Planners is preferred.
3) PLANNER 1 – COMMUNITY PLANNING

POSITION OVERVIEW
This is professional planning work in the analysis of policy planning issues, including the preparation of related reports and recommendations for review by a superior. The work involves the assembly, research, analysis and interpretation of historical, economic, physical, legal, statistical and other data for departmental studies and projects. The incumbent maintains liaison with a variety of contacts and attends related internal and external meetings and may supervise technical subordinates assigned to a specific project. An employee exercises considerable independence of action and judgment, referring complex problems or policy matters to a superior who reviews work performance in terms of achievement of desired objectives.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
University graduation in an appropriate discipline, plus a post graduate degree in Community or Regional Planning or other related areas, supplemented by some professional planning experience, OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preference will be given to candidates that have three years of policy experience.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The City of Maple Ridge has an exciting opportunity for a Planner 1 position. This position applies specialized planning knowledge in the interpretation of plans, policies and bylaws to the review of development applications within urban and rural environments.
Work involves the review of a range of development applications including subdivisions, apartments and other moderately complex developments; and making recommendations on the amendment of bylaws and other types of applications for such developments.
While work assignments and objectives are set forth by management staff, the Planner 1 is expected to exercise initiative and judgment in carrying out their work.
