Childrens Receiving Home - Sacramento, CA

Position Type: Part Time

Salary Range: $17.16 Hourly

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the TIC Sprouts Site Supervisor, the Teacher Aide is responsible for the daily care and supervision of students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create a favorable group climate prioritizing the child's safety, emotional nurturing, and healthy development.
  • Provide childcare and supervision for the clients.
  • Ensure hour-by-hour care, safety, supervision, protection, guidance, and discipline of the group and each child.
  • Meet the health and personal hygiene needs of minors under care, reporting medical concerns to medical staff.
  • Provide a caring, warm environment, setting clear boundaries, and encouraging positive actions to build self-esteem and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain discipline and group control, reporting unresolved conflicts to a supervisor promptly.
  • Support transportation needs of the programs as directed by the site supervisor or Clinical Director.
  • Check in frequently with children to prevent crisis situations and follow up after incidents.
  • Intervene in crisis situations to ensure the safety of clients and staff.
  • Serve snacks and maintain a pleasant mealtime atmosphere, modeling appropriate behavior.
  • Provide transportation for children as necessary and in accordance with agency policy.
  • Be an informed and supportive team member.
  • Make critical observations and record children's behavior objectively.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly classroom area, meeting all CCL and health and safety codes.
  • Supervise chores and work projects of children.
  • Report building and equipment damage or unsafe conditions and initiate corrective action.

Other Duties:

  • Be familiar with and able to carry out all emergency/disaster plans.
  • Attend regular staff meetings regarding program issues and in-service training.
  • Complete written documentation per program requirements and agency policy.
  • Participate in team meetings to facilitate the development of treatment plans for each child.
  • Ensure accurate recording of worked hours and notify a supervisor of discrepancies promptly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as client safety/treatment plans and procedure manuals. Ability to write professional/clinical reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

Computer Skills:

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Internet Explorer is required.

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Twelve Early Childhood Education (ECE) units from an accredited college or university are required.
  • Previous experience working with children in a therapeutic setting is preferred.

Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:

  • Must possess a valid California Driver's License and be eligible to drive for business.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must pass First Aid certification course before starting employment.
  • Must pass CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention certification courses within the first three months of employment.
  • Must maintain TCI, CPR, First Aid, and BBP Certification throughout employment.
  • Must complete online Mandated Reporter Training Course within the first week of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Other Abilities:

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to perform housekeeping tasks, including cleaning and laundry.
  • Skill to instruct, direct, counsel, and encourage children.
  • Ability to maintain discipline and group control therapeutically.
  • Effective communication skills in written and oral form.
  • Ability to listen attentively to clients, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to plan and organize multiple tasks.

Knowledge of child/adolescent development and child psychology is preferred.

  • Knowledge of medications and their reactions is preferred.
  • Basic mathematics skills are preferred.
  • Ability to relate to children in a nurturing and respectful manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain appropriate boundaries with children and families.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a culturally diverse population.
  • Ability to collaborate with community and outside agencies.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team or individual setting.
