Starting Salary Range: $70,795.26 to $85,326.27

POSITION SUMMARY:
Within the Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag Child & Family Services Service Model, the protection of children and youth is a total community responsibility, everyone has a role to play. Indigenous people have an inherent right and responsibility to raise children in ways that are consistent with traditional child-rearing practices. First Nation, Inuit and Métis communities retain the authority to fully participate in decisions regarding their children’s care and well-being. These partnerships are described in service agreements and protocols that the Family Service Worker respects and adheres to.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. The Child & Youth Service Worker is responsible for ensuring the provision of quality service to children in the care of Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag Child and Family Services.
2. The Child & Youth Service Worker will ensure all Legislative, Ministry, and Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag policies, procedures, and regulations respective to the child’s care are met.
3. The Child & Youth Service Worker will formulate plans of care guided by the goals of permanence and stability and implement strategies to satisfy treatment objectives.
4. This position works closely with Alternative Care and Customary Care parents, other care providers, other Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag staff, community service agencies, and community professionals to ensure the needs of children in care are met.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides an ongoing assessment of the child’s needs and develops an appropriate Plan of Care based on these needs.
2. The incumbent is directly accountable for the provision of service to children in the care of Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag in accordance with the Child, Youth, and Family Services Act, Ministry standards and guidelines, and Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag policies and procedures.
3. Participates in the development and implementation of alternative residential care plans for children requiring replacement.
4. Monitors childcare practices within placements and alerts the Supervisor of any potential problems regarding the care and protection of the child.
5. Attends YOA Court, if required, to provide evidence concerning children in care as well as support to the youth.
6. Attends CYFSA Court, if required, to assist the protection worker by providing evidence pertaining to the child’s needs and progress in care.

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Has a strong working knowledge of all pertinent legislation, Ministry Standards and Guidelines, Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag Child and Family Services policies, procedures, and directives, and the Regional Protocol.
2. Completes recordings within the timelines as outlined in policies.
3. Uses advocacy strategies on behalf of family members to ensure the child(ren) receives access to services within the community.
4. Maintains effective professional working relationships with community collaterals.
5. Attends team, departmental and staff meetings.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

1. Bachelor of Social Work Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services related field, and a minimum of three (3) years relevant experience working with children and families.
2. Experience working within Child Welfare and/or Indigenous Child-Wellbeing settings would be considered an asset.
