Nature and Scope

The Child-Minding and Pre-School Play Instructor will be responsible for caring for infants and toddlers between the ages of 3 months to 5 years of age. Develop relationships with members and potential members and ensure the safety and well-being of our youngest members while in our care. Quality Assurance is instrumental in ensuring our programs and services are providing positive experiences for participants and delivering high quality programs, based on the YMCA mission & the needs of individuals in the programs.

Location: Peter Gilgan Family YMCA, 410 Rebecca Street, Oakville

Schedule of Work: Part time position, Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9:00am-11:00am and Saturday 8:45am-11:15am. Possible evening coverage shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Create warm, welcoming environments and ensure the safety of children enrolled in the program through direct supervision, attendance protocols, and age-appropriate programming.
  • Provide care for infants and toddlers while their parents and caregivers attend workouts or fitness classes within our Y facility.
  • Provide an environment of safety and comfort to children by providing age-appropriate activities/play or soothing a crying infant until their parents return to pick them up.
  • Provide excellent customer service skills, ensure member safety and build relationships with members.
  • Ensure program meets the YMCA standards and ensure a high-quality experience for participants.
  • Develop positive, supportive, and collaborative working relationships with staff members and volunteers.
  • Adhere to all YMCA Policies and Practices including child protection.
  • Consistently model behavior that aligns with our YMCA core values.

Requirements

  • Related post-secondary education or relevant equivalent working experience in same field
  • Experience working or volunteering with infants and toddlers ages 3 months to 5 years
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent customer service skills and relationship building skills
  • Valid Standard First Aid with CPR C
  • Current Police Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
