Position Summary

We are seeking a full-time Chief Operating Officer to join our team. The Chief Operating Officer reports to the GM/CEO and is responsible for managing the effective operations of the Club, overseeing all technical and operational areas to ensure efficient day-to-day operations and the highest level of service to members. The role oversees an annual operating budget of $5.4 million and a capital budget of $1.5 million, ensuring fiscal responsibility and strategic financial planning.

The role includes oversight of 4 direct reports including: Engineering Manager, Engineering Lead-Hand, Housekeeping Manager and Member Services & Security Manager with broader responsibility for approximately 50 team members within the department.

Position Responsibilities

Facility

  • Responsible for daily operations including Facility, Groundskeeping, Housekeeping, Shipping & Receiving, Engineering, Member Services & Security, and Sign Shop.
  • Participate in ongoing facility, grounds, and equipment inspections throughout the Club to assure that preventative maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and other standards are consistently attained.

Finance

  • Responsible for the overall financial performance of the Operations department.
  • Monitor monthly and yearly operating and capital budgets, short and long-term financial goals, cost controls, operating standards, and strategies to ensure fiscal health and operating efficiency.
  • Audit and approve bi-weekly payroll.

Operational

  • Accountable for procurement, asset management, and capital planning, ensuring efficient use of resources and strategic investment in assets.
  • Plan, manage and approve staffing and scheduling procedures, the long-range staffing needs of the department and monitor actual labour hours and cost.
  • Ensure all Federal, Provincial and municipal laws and acts are consistently adhered to including the Workers Compensation Act, Safety Standards Act, Health Act, and municipal bylaws.

Leadership & Staffing

  • Responsible for the selection, recruitment, compensation, direction and management of the staff within Operations.
  • Comply with established Club hiring procedures, ensuring that all new and existing employees receive adequate training and orientation.
  • Mentor, train, coach and monitor staff to consistently meet and exceed the Club’s excellence service standards and goals.
  • Effectively manage stakeholder relationships and regularly present strategic updates and reports to the Board of Directors.

Customer Service

  • Ensure members and guests receive courteous, prompt, and professional attention to their needs.
  • Utilize feedback to improve departmental operations and member satisfaction.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in managerial positions in private clubs, recreation, or hospitality.
  • Proven experience collaborating with a board of directors, demonstrating strategic leadership and governance expertise.
  • Experience supervising and managing a multi-faceted operation and managing a large group of individuals.
  • Project & Financial Management Experience.
  • Own transportation is an asset due to the Club’s location.

Working Conditions:

  • This position operates 100% on-site.
  • Regular evenings or weekend work may be required during peak periods or special events.
