Job description

Status: Permanent, Full-time

Salary Range: $151,806 - $189,757 - $227,709 (min – mid – max).

Location: Hybrid

Position Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) has strategic and operational responsibility for Coast Mental Health’s programs and services, Information Technology/Information Management (IT/IM) and Quality Improvement and Properties areas. The COO spearheads the organization’s strategic planning process, provides operational leadership to the senior management team and serves as a liaison to external stakeholders and partners. The COO works in collaboration with the CEO and the Board of Directors, to ensure that the Board and senior management team are aware and engaged in Coast’s strategies, opportunities and challenges.

In partnership with the senior management team (including the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) the COO is responsible for developing, implementing and managing the operational aspects of Coast Mental Health. In addition to the COO’s key oversight of internal operational excellence, the COO may be called upon to assist with funder relationship building, stakeholder engagement and other duties, as required.

Key Opportunities

Strategic Plan Implementation

  • Provide programmatic leadership and input for the strategic plan implementation process, in collaboration with the senior management team and staff.
  • Coach direct reports as they implement the strategic plan and transition/evolve programs and services.
  • Develop and implement a system for tracking, reporting and evaluating the progress of the strategic plan implementation.
  • Contribute to the enterprise risk management process, identifying organizational risks, promoting risk mitigation and a safe work environment.

Program Operational Leadership

  • Provide effective and inspiring leadership throughout the organization.
  • Lead, coach, develop and retain a high-performance senior management team, with an emphasis on developing capacity in strategic analysis, planning and program budgeting.
  • Orchestrate the delivery of programs and services; develop a broad and deep knowledge of all programs and services offered by the organization to provide effective and meaningful leadership to program directors and service delivery.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage cross-program and department strengths to take advantage of new opportunities and resources and/or to address organizational challenges and inefficiencies.
  • Build collaboration across all programs and at all levels.
  • Oversee IT/IM; ensure the organization’s infrastructure is supporting staff and services effectively and efficiently.
  • Lead and implement Quality Improvement plans and initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of staff training programs, in collaboration with the CHRO.
  • Prepare, manage and submit an annual operational budget; report regularly and accurately on the budget acknowledging any progress and challenges encountered.
  • Ensure the continued financial viability of the organization’s operational units through sound fiscal management.

External Relationship Development

  • As requested by the CEO, assists in managing and cultivating existing relationships with funders to secure and expand recurring revenue streams and identify new prospects and projects.
  • As requested by the CEO, publicly represents the organization with the media and external constituency groups including community, governmental and private organizations, building excitement for the organization’s mission and vision.

Compensation

The salary for this position is $151,806 - $189,757 - $227,709 (min – mid – max). The Pay Range is the minimum and maximum annual salary based on full time equivalent hours. Incumbents are typically hired between the minimum and midpoint of the range based on their knowledge, skills, abilities and experience in relation to the role requirements.
