ABOUT US:
Since 2009, Gowest has expanded its land holdings in the North Timmins Gold Project (“NTGP”) area to cover a total of 109 square km in the Timmins gold camp, with much of the additional lands being located along the same geological structures – along the largely undeveloped Pipestone Fault, believed to be a splay off the prolific Porcupine-Destor Fault, which has produced the majority of the 145 million ounces of gold produced historically along the Abitibi-Greenstone belt – that host Gowest’s Bradshaw Gold Deposit (formerly Frankfield East) as well as a number of other gold showings.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Mine Manager, the Chief Engineer is responsible and accountable for the Mine Engineering Department and ensuring all tasks assigned to that department are completed on time and will allow for success in meeting our annual targets in a safe and efficient manner.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee, coordinate and address engineering activities including annual budgets, reserves, planning, surface and underground infrastructure, mine ventilation and geotechnical issues.
- Develop, optimize, and implement approved short and midterm plans to achieve annual tonnage and ounce objectives in a safe and economic manner.
- Coordinate mid-range and long-range mine infrastructure planning with mine operations related to dewatering, electrical and ventilation.
- Monitor compliance and ensure adherence to applicable engineering codes, regulations, safety and environmental practices, performance standards and specifications.
- Provide technical leadership and operational expertise to the engineering and operations team.
- Establish, execute, and effectively monitor short-term and long-term plans that supports corporate growth strategies.
- Participate in daily/weekly planning meetings, with key personnel, to coordinate activities to meet goals.
- Plan alternative optimized methods of ore extraction, stope access and mining sequence, detailing the benefits and issues with each while making recommendations to the team.
- Preparation of month-end and year-end engineering reports and submissions.
- Coordinate mine engineering work with geology and mine operations teams.
- Develop and maintain engineering policies and procedures.
- Enforce accountability of compliance to plans within the mine operations department.
- Work cooperatively with the mine operations teams to develop engineered solutions to operational problems.
- Ensure engineering provides adequate prints to support mine operations.
- Recruit, mentor, and retain engineering personnel in coordination with departmental succession planning.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Recognized Mining Engineering Degree, must be able to register for a P. Eng in the province of Ontario.
- 7 to 10 years of related mining engineering experience working in underground mining environment.
- 2 to 3 years of supervisory experience would be considered an asset.
- Strong background in mine services, design, scheduling, QA/QC, and contractor management.
- Experience in underground narrow vein mining, ground control, and underground/surface water management will be considered assets. Demonstrated experience working with others, good overall communication skills, both oral and written.
- Required experience with 3D mining software including Deswik or equivalent, and other Microsoft Office software packages.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- The role is located at the Frankfield Property, which is in the southwest part of Tully Township, approximately 32 km north-northeast of the City of Timmins, Ontario.
- The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of 4 days on and 3 days off (10-hour days). Although you will be assigned a work schedule, this is not a guaranteed schedule of hours, and your work hours may vary with the needs of the company.
