Metro Vancouver Aboriginal Executive Council (MVAEC) & Slaxin Lelum (formerly MVISS)

Location: Vancouver, BC (Hybrid)

Status: Full-Time, Permanent

Salary Range: $95,000 – $145,000 annually (commensurate with experience)

The Metro Vancouver Aboriginal Executive Council (MVAEC) and its sister organization Slaxin Lelum (formerly Metro Vancouver Indigenous Services Society) are seeking a visionary and strategic Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead and support our mission of improving the well-being and outcomes of the urban Indigenous community in Metro Vancouver.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and culturally grounded leader to guide a highly respected Indigenous organization. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the CEO is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, financial stewardship, and operational management of both organizations. The CEO will work closely with Indigenous community leaders, all levels of government, and service providers to ensure culturally safe, trauma-informed, and community-led programs are delivered with excellence and integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide executive leadership and operational oversight for both MVAEC and Slaxin Lelum

  • Develop and implement strategic plans that reflect community priorities and promote long-term sustainability

  • Lead organizational planning, budgeting, policy development, and performance measurement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities, government agencies, funders, and partners

  • Oversee program delivery, ensuring services are culturally based, trauma-informed, and aligned with Indigenous values and philosophies

  • Advocate on behalf of the urban Indigenous community at regional, provincial, and federal levels

  • Support the Board of Directors through transparent governance and communication

  • Ensure fiscal responsibility through financial planning, monitoring, and risk management

  • Foster a healthy, inclusive, and values-driven organizational culture

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Public Administration, Indigenous Governance, Social Sciences, Law, Finance, or a related field

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in senior leadership, preferably in an Indigenous, not-for-profit, or community-based organization

  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, financial oversight, and organizational development

  • Deep understanding of Indigenous communities, cultures, and values, particularly in an urban context

  • Strong communication, negotiation, and partnership-building skills

  • Experience working with Boards of Directors and diverse stakeholders

  • Sound knowledge of culturally appropriate and trauma-informed practices

  • Preference will be given to qualified Indigenous applicants

Working Conditions:

This position offers a hybrid work model with a mix of in-office and remote flexibility. Occasional evening and weekend work, as well as travel, may be required.
