The Opportunity:

Change Manager, Rail & Transit for our Transportation Systems team located in our Calgary or Edmonton office(s). Reporting to the Commercial Manager, this position will be responsible for managing change on contractual agreements for major rail and transit projects, change management activities, collaboration with project teams to identify change and report changes as they occur. This position involves extensive contact with clients, sub-consultants, and project team(s); therefore organizational & communication skills are paramount for success. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a willingness to expand in the Change Manager, Rail & Transit role with the expectation to advance to a higher level of accountability as opportunities present themselves.

What you can expect to do here:

  • Work within an existing Commercial Management team in support of the Transportation Systems group, primarily supporting management of Rail and Transit projects; with opportunities to support Ports, Marine and Coastal, and Aviation market sectors.
  • Draft, prepare, review, and manage change management including documents encompassing agreements of all types: client contracts, subcontracts, subconsultant agreements and intercompany agreements. This incorporates internal commercial change management activities, client change management activities and third-party.
  • Assist the technical teams in the interpretation and application of contractual terms related to change management to support analysis of change and adherence to change management workflow(s).
  • Review and provide recommendations on change management activity such as preparation of Project Change Requests, Change Orders, collection of estimates of change impact including impact to cost and/or schedule.
  • Maintain contractual records and documentation accordingly.
  • Support the identification of potential risks associated with contracts, support development of mitigation strategies to minimize liabilities. Collaborate with Legal, Insurance, Project Controls and Risk Management Departments.
  • Recommend changes as required and manage ongoing and critical contractual issues on projects; may include support of claims management, conflicts of interest, etc.
  • Provide guidance on change management matters to project managers and other operational staff including training on change management practices and procedures as required.
  • Support the contract management lifecycle process; includes contract management kickoff, execution and closeout.
  • Strong understanding of contract law, legal principles, commercial principles and relevant regulations.
  • Capability to support the analysis of complex contracts, identify potential issues, and support the assessment of risk and mitigation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to clearly articulate contract terms and expectations.
  • Other duties as assigned/required.

What you’ll bring to WSP:

TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree in a related field (business, law, or other related areas), or substantial experience will be considered.
  • 10+ years of relevant project and contract administration experience.
  • Significant experience in a similar role involving change management on projects.
  • Experience on large projects at an intermediate level working with various stakeholders.
  • Experience working with legal, risk, technical, financial, and commercial advisors.
  • Experience in risk identification, and support of allocation and quantification for large, complex capital projects.
  • Familiarity with transit systems operations, asset management practices and contract administration.
  • Proven advanced conflict and issues resolution skills.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Supply Chain Management Professional Certification (SCMP) would be considered as an asset.
  • Experience working with rail and transit projects considered an asset, but not necessary.
  • Capital Projects experience considered an asset.
  • Experience in contract administration and claims management an asset.
  • Experience in both Owner and Contractor roles an asset.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience, competence in clear, concise, and tactful communication with senior management, clients, peers, and staff.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn.
  • Adaptability and flexibility including the ability to manage deadline pressure, ambiguity, and change.
  • Experience in a Consulting Engineering environment is an asset.
