Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital is Canada's largest pediatric rehabilitation hospital. We provide specialized care for children and youth with a wide range of disabilities and complex health needs. Our multidisciplinary team works together to support every child's development and quality of life. We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Certified Orthotist to join our team on an 18-month contract.

Position Summary:
The Orthotic/Prosthetic department provides services to pediatric and adult clients who require orthotic and prosthetic devices to improve their mobility, function and independence. As a Certified Orthotist at Holland Bloorview, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive orthotic care to children, youth, and adults. This role requires expertise in assessing, designing, fabricating, fitting, and maintaining custom orthotic devices to help maximize function and mobility for patients. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure client-centered, goal-directed, and evidence-based care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate orthotic requirements and needs of clients, ensuring all functional and mobility needs are addressed.
  • Present clinical opinions and rationale to clients/families and team members in a clear and concise manner.
  • Perform all necessary procedures including measurement, shape capture, and modifications to ensure accurate fittings.
  • Select and determine appropriate componentry for orthotic devices, tailored to client specific needs.
  • Evaluate orthoses, assess fit, and adjust as needed to ensure comfort and effectiveness.
  • Assess gait and functional movement to ensure orthotic devices meet mobility and functional needs.
  • Provide education and instruction to clients/families on proper care of orthoses and skin health.
  • Generate and maintain internal documentation for workflow processes
  • Initiate cost estimates and finalize billing statements for orthotic devices through ADP and other funding agencies.
  • Provide education to students, visitors, and interest groups regarding orthotic services.
  • In partnership with clients/families and the interdisciplinary team, provide client- and family-centred care that is goal-directed, evidence-based, and outcome-oriented.
  • Support and respect the client/family’s rights to make decisions based on their own values, beliefs, and experiences.
  • Base practice on established policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with professional and hospital standards.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and community providers to ensure an integrated approach to service.
  • Promote and support the physical, psychosocial, and spiritual well-being of clients and families.
  • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with clients, families, and team members.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and support the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment for staff, clients, and families.

Qualifications:

  • Orthotist certified from Orthotics Prosthetics Canada (OPC).
  • A minimum of two years of experience in pediatric orthotics or a related healthcare setting.
  • Strong knowledge and skills in assessing, designing, fabricating, fitting, and adjusting orthotic devices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with patients, families, and a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality care and supporting the rehabilitation process for children and youth.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in pediatric orthotic care.
  • Advanced training or certifications in specific areas of orthotics.
  • Working knowledge of digital technology processes
  • Bilingual in English and French is an asset.
