Certified Dental Assistant, Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO) program

Health Services, Chronic Disease & Injury Prevention

Status: (2) Contract Full Time positions, 12 months

Salary Range: $54,969 to $68,713 + comprehensive benefits

Location: 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga & various travel throughout Peel Region

Hours of work: 35 hours per week; Monday through Friday

Who we are: The Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) works in collaboration with oral health team members to deliver oral health programs in Peel as mandated by the Ministry of Health and Peel Region.

What you will do in this role:

  • Follow guidelines provided by Peel Region, Ministry of Health, and other regulatory bodies
  • Assess eligibility for publicly funded oral health programs
  • Assist with case management and support client follow up
  • Assist in delivery of preventive and treatment services to clients
  • Problem solve in collaboration with colleagues and the Supervisor
  • Provide client focused navigation to oral health services in Peel
  • Provide dental care in the scope of a Level II CDA as permitted
  • Complete required program documentation and administrative functions
  • Maintain client confidentiality
  • Answer telephone enquiries from residents as well as community partners such as dental offices
  • Develop and maintain cooperative and collaborative relationships with internal and external parties
  • Respect issues of diversity, ethnicity, language and culture
  • Perform data entry into applicable databases i.e. OHISS
  • Use of personal vehicle and travel to various work locations, as required
  • Other duties as assigned

What the role requires:

  • Level ll Certified Dental Assistant in good standing with the Ontario Dental Assistant’s Association
  • A minimum of two (2) years clinical experience (full time equivalent)
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered
  • Knowledge of technical and professional procedures and standards regarding dental practices in Ontario
  • Knowledge and competence in infection prevention and control
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Dental Association (ODA) procedure codes
  • CPR certification
  • Possess a valid ‘G’ driver’s license with the ability to travel to various regional locations on a day-to-day basis

Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong customer service skills as well as excellent interpersonal communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Well developed and proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment
  • Computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Competency in data entry
  • Exceptional time management, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to adapt to a changing work environment
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of the Oral Health Information and Support System (OHISS)
  • Multilingualism
  • Ability to upgrade to a D class driver’s license
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in public health

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role, you'll enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement. This means you'll have the ability to work off-site and on-site as needed, depending on operational needs at the 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga worksite. The frequency of on-site work may vary from week to week, depending on operational demands, which can evolve over time. Please note travel throughout Peel Region is required.
