Overview

Oak Park Co-operative Children's Centre is currently seeking a Centre Director, who is responsible for the successful leadership, overall management and daily operations of its child care centre, licensed for 58 children, in accordance with the policies, procedures and strategic direction set forth by the Board of Directors. The Centre Director oversees delivery of all program services through leadership of staff, planning and development of programs and services, assessment and evaluation of services, development and management of informational and financial resources, development of policies in compliance with CCEYA and effective communication with agencies, families, government representatives and the wider community.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years demonstrated experience in licensed group childcare settings, and at least 3 years management/leadership experience in non-profit childcare sector.
  • Child Care Knowledge: Knowledge of pedagogical approaches that support How Does Learning Happen, Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years. Ability to meet the legislative requirements for working in a licensed childcare setting.
  • People Leader: Experience fostering a positive and inclusive work environment that promotes collaboration and teamwork, supports professional growth and development of team members and demonstrates empathy, integrity and a commitment to building strong relationships with their team.

What you’ll do:

  • Oversee all components of human resource planning and implementation, including recruitment, onboarding and performance management of all employees.
  • Work collaboratively with the Program Supervisor to oversee all components of the program, which is licensed for 58 children (10 toddlers & 48 preschoolers).
  • Oversee and coordinate planning, development and delivery of a high-quality early learning program; apply best practices; develop and implement guiding principles, goals and objectives of programs.
  • Conduct strategic planning and translate vision into concrete work activities.
  • Ensure quality of child centred environment – physically and emotionally safe environments, welcoming and respectful; promote parent involvement and partnership.
  • Communicate regularly with families, early learning care committees, childcare networks and associations to determine program effectiveness, directions and goals.
  • Research and analyze needs to determine direction of program with Program Supervisor; develop program standards.
  • Develop reports for funders and Board of Directors.
  • Responsive to identified client and community needs, lead and manage change, adjust to changing early learning and care landscape; network with others in sector to compare, assess, learn and develop future programs.
  • Assist the Board of Directors to develop a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization.
  • Attend board meetings.
  • Ensure that the Board is kept up to date on all relevant changes in legislation and licensing requirements. Provide summary reports to the Board after organizational inspections.
  • Provide a monthly report on the operations of the organization for Board meetings.
  • Act as a professional advisor to the Board of Directors on all aspects of the organization’s activities.
  • Implement policies on behalf of the Board.
  • Assist the Board of Directors in obtaining Board orientation/training annually to ensure best practices.
  • Develop and maintain relations with community; interact with the community through external committees to promote early learning programs and participate in discussions related to the early years.
  • Present and participate in workshops, conferences and public presentations.
  • Oversee the financial viability of the organization through budget management in the areas of fee collections, invoicing, purchases of service, monthly childcare fees and balancing revenue and expenditures.
  • Participate in budget planning and reconciliation.
  • Administer the finances of the organization according to the budget approved by the Board.
  • Prepare and submit special funding requests and grant proposals.
  • Interpret, analyze and reconcile financial statements.
  • Monitor current sector salary scales to ensure that the organization remains competitive.
  • Establish and oversee administrative procedures to meet objectives.
  • Approve expenditures and allocate resources.
  • Manage program funds according to established accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensure program meets and follows Occupational Health and Safety Act and meets all legislated CCEYA requirements.

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years demonstrated experience in licensed group childcare settings.
  • 3 years management/leadership experience in non-profit childcare sector.
  • Strong knowledge of early childhood education and child development.
  • Strong knowledge of all licensing regulations and requirements, including any Regional or Municipal requirements.
  • Knowledge of current community resources and services.
  • Valid driver’s license and car to travel, as required.
  • Basic finance management skills with ability to create and manage a budget.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act.
  • Current criminal background check, including vulnerable sector screening.
  • Valid Standard First Aid certificate with level C CPR.
  • Proficient with a variety of software applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook), online search, business tools, database administration for children’s records and fees.
  • Strong capacity for effective written and verbal communication.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $62,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
