ACCOUNTING CLERK - FINANCE DEPARTMENT - CENTRAL OFFICE (Permanent position)

The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education is responsible for the administration of the public school system within the boundaries of Cape Breton and Victoria Counties, supporting approximately 12,000 students in 38 schools.

HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday - 6.5 hours daily

WORK TERM: Permanent Position

LOCATION: CBVRCE Central Office

RATE OF PAY: $34.06 per hour (Rates are under review)


MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An accounting degree, accounting diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience specifically related to the job description is required.
  • Proficiency with SAP and MS Office Suite is required.
  • An advanced level of proficiency with Excel is required.
  • Experience with word processing, databases, and spreadsheet programs is required.
  • A minimum of one-year accounting experience would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with Google Apps for Education would be considered an asset.
  • Applicants should be innovative and creative with respect to utilizing technology.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

A competency test will be required for all applicants.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Maintain filing system, including registers, for payroll department excluding documents and registers pertaining to substitute teachers.
  • Prepare and run all non-teaching payrolls.
  • Involved in preparing and checking of teaching payroll.
  • Posting and checking payroll input to the computer system.
  • Assist in the preparation of bi-weekly substitute payrolls.
  • Checking of timesheets for non-teaching, casual and grounds supervisors and EI inquiries for all.
  • Prepare separation certificates for all regular and casual non-teaching employees.
  • Process summer school payrolls.
  • Input non-teaching sick time and earned time on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Balancing of non-teaching and confidential sick leave annually in January.
  • Other duties as assigned.
