Catering Assistant

The Catering Assistant is responsible for providing a consistent and high-quality standard of food and beverage setup/service to clients, ensuring smooth delivery of conference and function services. The role involves setting up and breaking down conference rooms according to event orders, maintaining cleanliness standards for kitchens, equipment, and meeting rooms, and assembling and arranging conference equipment as per event requirements. Additionally, this position includes office maintenance such as trash removal, cleaning, and restocking kitchens and pantries. The Catering Assistant works with the Coordinator - Hospitality, Site Manager, or Integrated Accounts Manager to execute internal and client events and may also include general clerical tasks, reception duties, and handling mail services.

Responsibilities:

  1. Become knowledgeable with the Firm's required Best Practices in Food Service Procedures
  2. Prepare meeting rooms for food and beverage service, deliver, set-up, and retrieve orders, and perform clean-up and reset of meeting rooms according to the in-house reservation system
  3. Ensure that all tabletop items are clean and presentable and properly set tables and related furniture for special events as instructed
  4. Maintain a safe and orderly work area and perform all job duties in a safe manner, following all Firm safety policies and procedures
  5. Maintain inventory supplies, ensuring the kitchen, conference centre, and coffee rooms are well stocked
  6. Ensure exceptional client service for all events, including prompt delivery of food, beverage, and catering needs
  7. Ensure tidiness and cleanliness of café and other kitchen areas
  8. Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator - Hospitality and/or manager

Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma or GED
  2. Minimum of 2 years experience in a food services, restaurant, hospitality, or catering role
  3. Certification required to serve alcohol (e.g. Smart Serve in Ontario)

Skills:

  1. Working knowledge of accepted food service industry standards regarding food sanitation, handling, and preparation
  2. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to exercise discretion and good judgement
  3. Excellent coordination, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  4. Ability to multi-task and adapt to change
  5. Service-oriented with the ability to work as a team or independently
  6. Ability to regularly lift and push objects up to 30 lbs
  7. Basic computer skills with Microsoft Applications
