The City of Iqaluit is looking for energetic Casual Fitness and Wellness staff to provide enthusiastic group and wellness programming at the IAC’s Fitness Centre!

This employment opportunity is open to Iqaluit Residents.

Reporting to the Fitness Centre Coordinator, the Program Representatives -Fitness and Wellness staff deliver a variety of group fitness and wellness programming. Fitness and Wellness staff lead and supervise exercise sessions in one or more assigned fitness areas, including but not limited to low impact aerobics, high intensity aerobics, stretching/flexibility, circuit training, core conditioning, strength training, small group personal training, aquatic fitness, Inuit games and general fitness. They will lead programs for a wide range of ages and abilities and be able to adapt programming accordingly.

It is the responsibility of Personal Trainers to ensure that the environment is socially inclusive. They must ensure that when responding to the diverse needs of guests that interactions demonstrate sensitivity and personal awareness. Other duties include basic equipment maintenance, providing support to guest services as needed with administrative tasks, and responding to member questions and concerns. Must be an ambassador for the Aquatic Centre and demonstrate the City of Iqaluit’s Vision, Mission and Recreation Department Core Competencies in their work and interactions with guests.

This position also includes cleaning duties, enforcement of Centre rules and regulations, and emergency response to ensure the safety of all guests.

AVAILABILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 5 hours per week for flexible shifts which could be in the morning, evenings, weekends and holidays.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Fitness Instructor or Coaching certification or ability to achieve within first month of employment (CALA, WaterArt, CanfitPro PTS or FIS, ACE, NCCP Coaching Level 1 or equivalent).
  • Experience with group fitness.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR – C.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Holding a diploma/degree in Kinesiology or directly related field and the ability to speak Inuktitut and/or French are considered definite assets.

Equivalencies that include a combination of education and experience may be considered.

Due to the nature of this position, successful candidates would be required to submit a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check, as well as a TB Test.
