Job Details

Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. Carpentry/carpenter or equivalent experience.

Work Site Environment: At heights, confined spaces, noisy, dusty, outdoors.

Work Setting: Construction, various locations, renovation, commercial, industrial, residential.

Level of Expertise: Maintenance and repair.

Responsibilities

Tasks

1. Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine work requirements.
2. Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools.
3. Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials.
4. Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems.
5. Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware.
6. Instruct apprentices.
7. Maintain, repair and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants and other establishments.

Certificates, Licences, Memberships, and Courses

1. Carpenter Trade Certification.
2. Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate.
3. Carpenter Red Seal Certificate.
4. Fall Arrest Protection Training Course.

Experience

5 years or more.

Transportation/Travel Information

Valid driver's licence.

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities

1. Combination of sitting, standing, walking.
2. Large workload.
3. Work with minimal supervision.
