Medicine Hat Public School Division offers a full spectrum of education services for its 7,000 students and 1,000 staff in the community of Medicine Hat, Alberta. Reporting to the Director of Facilities, the primary purpose of this role is to provide carpentry and/or glazier services intended to maintain facilities and conduct repairs, when necessary, in a safe and cost-effective manner.
Duties And Responsibilities
Construct and repair building frameworks and structures (e.g. foundations, floors, walls, roofs, sidewalks, etc.)
Construct, repair, and replace building envelope, drywall, finishes, furniture, equipment, and hardware (e.g. doors, windows, overhead doors, operators, shutters, door hardware, furniture, suspended ceilings, dry walling, mudding and taping, etc.).
Design project layouts including material selection, sequence planning, measuring, and marking materials, etc.
Complete mechanical repairs such as door and gate operators, door hardware, basketball hoops, gym nets, etc.
Execute locksmith projects
Calculate project estimates and complete work orders
Assess workplace and school hazards to improve safety throughout Division buildings
Perform casual labour (e.g. lifting, project clean up, etc.)
Purchase materials and products when required and within designated budget
Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants with the following qualifications:
Alberta-certified Carpenter Journeyperson, Glazier Journeyperson, or hold a valid recognized credential and/or an equivalent combination of experience, training, skills, and knowledge may be considered
Possess knowledge of building codes, safety standards, and regulations
Ability to perform building maintenance
Ability to install, repair, or replace doors, windows, hardware, and operators
Ability to perform minor welding projects and repairs
Mechanical ability, strength, and manual dexterity
Valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license with an acceptable driving record
