The Opportunity

The Recreation Infrastructure branch is currently seeking to hire two casual Caretakers. As a Caretaker, you will primarily be responsible for providing a full range of cleaning services to ensure the patrons and staff of Servus Place have a clean environment. You will report to the Head Custodian and work as part of a team to ensure all areas of the facility are kept clean on specific shifts and according to an assigned cleaning schedule.

Specific duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Scrubbing, cleaning and sanitizing washrooms, locker and dressing rooms, common areas, offices, gym/fitness/aquatic/floor areas and various meeting room spaces.
  • Maintaining and replenishing supplies at various locations within the facility.
  • Collection/removal of trash and recycle materials.
  • Ongoing sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, buffing/waxing of floors, as well as cleaning bleacher areas, windows and walls.
  • Using and maintaining all custodial cleaning equipment, which can include power cleaning and aerial platform type equipment.
  • Complying with OH&S regulations that apply to your work (reading and understanding MSDS sheets, safe work practices with chemicals, proper lifting techniques).
  • Reading/monitoring the facility’s daily schedule for booked functions and events.
  • Providing excellent customer service to patrons and employees.
  • Assisting with setup and takedown of tables/chairs, pipe/drape, or AV related equipment in event rooms.

Qualifications

  • At minimum, applicants need to have Grade 10 education.
  • Must have the ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Previous janitorial experience.
  • The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and excels at multi-tasking.
  • To be successful, candidates must have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working as part of a team.
  • WHMIS would be an asset.

Note: This is a physically demanding position requiring Caretakers to be on their feet and walking through the facility for long periods of time. You may be required to lift up to a maximum of 30lbs at a time and move table and chair carts up to 50lbs in weight. Successful completion of a pre-employment Functional Fitness Evaluation may be a condition of employment.

Hours of Work

Caretakers are needed for a variety of shifts 7 days per week, which could include:

  • Early: approximately 5:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Days: approximately 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Afternoons: approximately 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
  • Nights: approximately 9:30 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.

Compensation

$18.65 – $21.56 per hour
