About The Student Success And Engagement Dept At Humber

The Student Success and Engagement (SSE) team is a service-oriented portfolio whose mission is to empower our diverse community of learners to discover their potential. Within the SSE, examples of our services are Student Wellness, Student Life and Learning, Equity Hubs, Accessible Learning Services, Advising and Careers, Athletics and Recreation. SSE aims to cultivate curiosity, resilience, confidence, and reflection in our learners, so that Humber students can thrive both within their academic pursuits and beyond.

About the Career Engagement & Education Specialist Role

Under the general supervision of the Associate Director, Advising and Career Services and in collaboration with the Manager, Advising Services, Student & Employer Engagement Specialist, Advising & Career Services Assistants, Career & Student Success Advisors, and campus partners, the Career Engagement and Education Specialist focuses on creating innovative career programming, educational materials and resources that help widen and enrich student engagement with Career Services and supports Humber’s Strategic Pillar of preparing students to be Career Ready Citizens.

Working through an equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging lens (EDIB), the incumbent will be responsible for developing and executing interactive and engaging career preparation programs and events for students such as Career Month, Transition to Work and programming for students from equity deserving groups in collaboration with campus and external partners.

The incumbent supports outreach and communication to students through digital means, strategically utilizing social media, the Humber Careers website, the Career Connect Job Portal, Blackboard and any other tools to enhance the profile and reach of Career Services and increase student engagement with Career Services. The Specialist regularly works with the Marketing Associate to update the Career Services website, ensuring information is current and format and approach is positively impacting student reach and engagement. The incumbent is responsible for curating and developing online career educational resources and tools to support students in their career development journey. The incumbent creates and executes digital marketing and promotion plans at the direction of the Manager, Advising Services engaging with Career Services staff in consultation and plan creation.

Education

Minimum, a 3-year degree (or equivalent) related to Education, Human Resources, Career Development/Counselling, Student Affairs/Services, Project Management, Information Science, Business Administration, Psychology, Social Work, Marketing or Media, Communication or Counselling Techniques.

Experience/Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
  • Digital Marketing or Social Media Management Certification. Career Development Practitioners’ Certificate an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of current digital marketing and social media trends and best practices.
  • Experience leading and developing marketing ad outreach programming for equity-deserving job seekers, including but not limited to, Indigenous learners, Black, African & Caribbean, 2SLGBTQ+, newcomers, international students, and learners with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or lived experience navigating Canadian the employment landscape as an equity-deserving job seeker, including ability to understand cultural complexity, and institutional barriers.
  • In-depth knowledge or proven experience in social networking and digital communications for building and mobilizing community.
  • Experience in a public relations/ marketing capacity with proven experience in event planning and execution.
  • Experience developing educational or career resources for post-secondary students.
  • Experience leading and supervising a team of student staff.
  • Proven experience collaborating effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
