Canadian Army Reserve Logistics Officer

You will be required to join the Canadian Army Reserve to be employed in this position.

This is NOT a civilian placement.

Logistics Officers provide the various means of transportation, equipment, and supplies for the movement of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members and all types and sizes of cargo throughout the world.

The responsibilities of a Logistics Officer include:

• Procurement
• Warehousing items and material control
• Distribution and disposal of military material, equipment, and ammunition
• Coordination of food services, postal services, human resource, or financial services.

Your primary responsibility is to lead a team of talented men and women under your command. When you’re in the field, you’ll likely be working out of a Command Post coordinating the various sustainment activities, and physically working on the ground with the troops.

Following this, you’ll complete specialty logistics training and training focused on your environmental affiliation.

A Logistics Officer in the Army will be employed as a platoon commander in a General Support or Close Support Service Battalion.

Logistics Officers are employed throughout all three military environments: the Army, Navy, and Air Force, each representing its own challenges.

This is a multifaceted career, throughout the course of which you will work in: Supply Chain Management, Transportation, Human Resource Management, Financial Management, or Food Services.

Logistics Officers - or Log Officers - are responsible for ensuring that all military operations and exercises are properly supported.

Reserve Force members usually serve part-time at a Reserve Force Division in their community and may serve while going to school or working at a civilian job. They are paid during their training. They are not posted or required to do a military move. However, they can volunteer to move to another base and may also volunteer for deployment on a military mission within or outside Canada. As a reservist, you will work one night a week and one weekend per month during the September to April timeframe. There may be opportunities for more employment throughout the year; however, that is not guaranteed. We offer full-time summer employment, beginning 1 May until 31 Aug, which is a great opportunity for students.

All successful applicants will be required to complete the Basic Military Qualification course (BMQ), either part-time (Friday to Sunday every other weekend for 11 weekends) normally held between September and March or full-time in the summer (Monday to Friday) for 5 weeks, followed by a two-week Basic Military Officer Qualification course. The next summer, the successful applicant will attend the Basic Military Officer Qualification LAND course for 11 weeks.

Upon completion of the Basic Military Qualification Course, candidates will be required to attend the Logistics Officer Common training course for 7.5 weeks, followed by the Logistics Officer Common Course for 9 weeks, followed by the Logistic Officer Specialty Course, which depending upon which specialty is chosen will be:

• Transport Officer: 4.5 weeks.
• Supply Officer: 3 weeks.
• HR Management: 3 weeks.
• Financial Services: 4 weeks.
• Food Services Officer: 11.5 weeks.

These courses are run during the summer and all candidates are required to reside in the barracks for the duration of the course.
