As a Business Strategist in the Bureau of Investigative Support, you will provide business planning, project management, research, analysis and consulting services to the Calgary Police Service (CPS). The impact of this work improves the efficiency and effectiveness of resources, programs, and services both internally and externally through collaboration with community and agency partners. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Provide strategic direction to the Bureau. Lead the Bureau's involvement in and response to corporate initiatives, processes and reporting related to the Service Plan and Budget, the Annual Policing Plan, corporate risk, and audit management responses.
  • Advocate internally to ensure the unique operations of the Bureau are reflected and considered in corporate initiatives and processes.
  • Examine trends (social, political, economic, technological, and legislative), emerging law enforcement issues, and industry best practices.
  • Triage and assess emerging issues, make connections to strategic initiatives that span the Service, and collaborate with other Bureaus and partner agencies to identify opportunities for collaboration.
  • Prepare strategic reports, business cases, management responses, and position papers to effectively communicate complex and sensitive issues for presentation to the CPS Executive Leadership Team, the Calgary Police Commission (CPC), City Council, and the Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police.
  • Consult with and facilitate meetings with senior management to support strategic plans, operational initiatives, administrative process improvements, organizational design, and deployment implementations.
  • Project management activities, including the initiation, leadership, research, planning, implementation and operationalization of new programs, policies, procedures, and operational initiatives.
  • Build internal working relationships and partnerships within the Bureau and across the service, as well as external, multidisciplinary community agencies, professional associations, and various levels of government.
Qualifications
  • A master's degree in Social Science, Public Administration or a related discipline and 5 years of related experience in applied research, preferably in a police service, government, or consulting agency.
  • Knowledge of the Alberta Provincial Policing Standards, criminal justice system, the legislative framework, investigative procedures, protocols and tactics are also required.
  • Previous experience in a policing or law enforcement environment will be considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication, relationship building, coaching and development skills, analytical thinking, focus on results, efficiency, and thoroughness, and change management.
Pre-employment Requirements
  • An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Compensation: Pay Grade 14 $50.21 - 67.10 per hour (2024 rates)
Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day work week with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
