What’s it like working as a Business Systems Analyst at Questrade?

At Questrade, we bring digital solutions into our investment needs. Our Business Systems Analysis team is the conduit between our Technology department and various lines of business, to build and improve our platforms.

The Business Systems Analyst gathers business requirements for the engineering team and communicates technical milestones for business stakeholders. This role requires a strong understanding of software development for trading systems. With knowledge from both technical and business perspectives, the Business Systems Analyst would also be the Subject Matter Expert for investing teams' marketing platforms.

1. Work with various business stakeholders to gather and refine requirements for a team under one mission.
2. Create and maintain solution intents at the feature level, contributing to cross squad requirements and respective solution intents.
3. Work closely with engineering teams and designers to build and improve investment products.
4. Develop acceptance criteria, assist in testing, and provide data analysis on proposed and ongoing initiatives.
5. Communicate technical milestones to business stakeholders and act as a subject matter expert for investing teams.
6. Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure business requirements are accurately translated into technical specifications.
7. Exhibit confidence, apply critical thinking, innovate, and keep up with technology and competitor products and services to solve business problems for the organization.
8. Provide solutions for new services and make recommendations to improve product quality, reliability, performance, and scalability.
9. Provide ongoing support and assistance to squad members, seeking occasional guidance from senior staff when needed.
10. Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence by identifying and implementing process improvements wherever appropriate.

1. You have worked in teams to develop software applications: desktop, web, and/or mobile.
2. You enjoy solving business problems and recommend scalable solutions.
3. You understand how REST APIs and gRPC are used to build cloud-based applications, and know how to use Postman.
4. A good understanding of capital markets and preferably some knowledge about the stock market.
5. You have invested in the stock market or cryptocurrency, and have your own rationale in deciding a good investment.
6. Strong written skills and some experience documenting business processes.
7. Experience with MSSQL, Power BI or equivalent database tools.
8. You are always curious to learn and understand how applications work behind-the-scenes, always asking why, why not.
9. You are a team player who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment.
10. You want to make better Questrade products to use them yourself.
11. You enjoy defining scope to bring ambiguous projects into reality.
12. You understand the importance of mapping workflows into diagrams, and enjoy dealing with large datasets in spreadsheets.
13. You can convey the importance of technical improvements to business stakeholders naturally, like fixing a production bug.
14. You are a brilliant detective at troubleshooting issues on your product.
15. You are excellent at time management and prioritization.
16. 2+ years working as a Business Analyst, Product Owner, or technical role within the financial services industry.
17. Work experience or knowledge in the investments industry: discount brokerage and wealth management.
18. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, IT, Business, and/or Finance with relevant work experience.
19. Closely worked with JIRA, Confluence, GitLab or equivalent tools.
20. Knowledge in banking and/or cryptocurrency industry.
21. Software development and/or entrepreneurial experience.
