What is the opportunity?
RBC Capital Markets (Canada) is hiring multiple Senior Business Analysts to join Quantitative & Technology Services' (QTS) Data, Cloud & Compute team. This is a deep engineering function developing high performance data and compute capabilities used across all of Capital Market's technology. Our products operate at massive scale, for example Burst/Grid computation across 150k cores supporting risk calculations in Equities and Fixed Income.
We are launching a new cloud-based data analytics platform called 'Aperture'. This platform is designed to enable the extraction of commercially valuable insights and intelligence through the application of advanced analytical techniques and AI/ML modelling on very large data sets. The primary purpose of this position is to engage and partner with technology teams across Capital Markets to 1) deeply understand their business needs, use-cases, datasets, and analytical requirements, 2) assess product-fit and 3) facilitate the smooth adoption of the Aperture platform.
What will you do?
Requirement Analysis and Documentation
- Engage and partner with QTS application teams moving onto the Aperture platform to understand their analytical use-cases/business goals and confirm product fit.
- Facilitate information gathering sessions including leading discussions, managing group dynamics, and maintaining group focus to work towards accomplishing the stated goal(s) of the session within the context of the project objectives. From these information sessions, gather the requirements and document them, along with business use cases, feasibility analysis, and cross-functional diagrams as needed.
- Partner with the platform engineering teams to ensure technical capabilities and data requirements are well understood, identify dependencies and integration points.
- Work with senior stakeholders to validate their requirements and analysis via techniques such as reviews and walkthroughs.
- Ensure system specifications meet the business stakeholders' expectations/requirements, and negotiate solutions when appropriate.
Data Analysis
- Analyze incoming data sets and develop detailed requirements around sourcing solutions, identify provisioning requirements, data transformations, etc.
- Able to decipher compliance, information security guidelines and apply them in the context of the datasets/business requirements.
- Identify data accuracy requirements, solution options, and remediation plans in case of a breach.
Communication and Planning
- Participate in reviews or inspections, in collaboration with the project team, to ensure the quality of the deliverables.
- Participate in user acceptance testing, implementation planning, post-implementation validations, and L2 production incident analysis as needed.
- Manage risks, assumptions, and constraints for requirements, and communicate to appropriate parties.
What do you need to succeed?
Minimum Requirements
- Strong business domain understanding of Financial Services/Capital Markets, excellent data analysis and solid background dealing with complex software products (preferably cloud/data analytics focused).
- Ability to work independently, apply critical and strategic thinking to issues, and manage deadlines while multi-tasking amongst different priorities.
- 10+ years of experience working as a Business Analyst with progressively increasing responsibilities in the areas of requirements management on large and complex projects.
- Proven experience with various project delivery methodologies such as Waterfall, Iterative and/or Agile.
- Experience in requirements planning and prioritization including stakeholder analysis and effort estimation.
- Data analysis expertise (e.g., using SQL, Tableau, Python).
Nice to Have
- Masters Certificate in Business Analysis.
- Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP), Certification of Competency in Business Analysis (CCBA), or Project Management Institute -Professional in Business Analysis (PMI-PBA) Certification (Preferred).
- Agile Certification (CSM, CPO).
- Experience of working with Capital Markets division of a multi-national bank or a Consulting firm focusing on similar clients.
Job Type: Fixed term contract
Pay: $30.22-$44.81 per hour
