We We are hiring for two Business Strategists where you will work as a team in the Chief Administrator's Office. The Chief Administrative Officer is responsible to the Mayor and Council for the efficient, effective and sustainable administration of our municipal government. The Business Strategist researches, analyzes, and develops solutions that support organizational focus and alignment to The City's vision, values, strategic direction, and priorities of Council. The team provides strategic advice and makes recommendations with respect to prioritizing initiatives, promoting good governance, and advancing Administration's strategy throughout the organization.

You are a self-motivated strategic thinker with a keen sense of political acumen and sensitivity. You will also have experience in supporting transformational change and enabling innovation. Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver and manage special projects as identified by the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) or Chief of Staff. These projects are organizational wide and require strong project management and collaboration with departments and Service Excellence teams, as well as corporate/enabling teams.
  • Act as a strategic advisor and moderator across the organization promoting collaborative and creative approaches to solve complex problems.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research and analysis. Research topics vary and the Business Strategist must quickly and accurately acclimatize themselves to the subject matter at hand.
  • Foster an inclusive leadership approach that promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion, as well as psychological and physical safety.

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Business Strategist reporting to the Manager of Corporate Strategy will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the Chief Administrative Officer, Chief of Staff, Executive Leadership Team and Manager, Corporate Strategy on initiatives to advance the organization's corporate strategy.
  • Work with colleagues in the CAO office and others across the organization to deliver, program and communicate regular leadership meetings with the Senior Management Team and Corporate Management Team. The Business Strategist will also support content creation and programming for ELT's Strategic sessions.
  • Lead, coordinate and respond to corporate requests related to the Executive Leadership service line, including progress updates, mid-cycle adjustments, and principle corporate risks.

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Business Strategist reporting to the Leader of Executive Operations will be responsible for:

  • Advance and support effective communication, collaboration, and coordination between Ward offices, senior leaders within Administration, and executives from the community/businesses/post-secondary through the development and implementation of various corporate programs, strategies, and action plans.
  • Identify and develop annual external relationship plans/strategies for the Chief Administrative Officer and Executive Leadership Team.
  • Communicate directly with residents on inquiries received through phone calls, 311 and through the offices of elected officials. This includes coordinating, triaging, assigning, and responding as required.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Business Administration, Management, Economics, or other related disciplines plus at least 5 years of experience in developing and implementing corporate strategy, and initiatives, working with Senior Leadership and Management, and coordinating and contributing to corporate reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand organizational dynamics and successfully navigate complex cross-corporate and cross-departmental projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, strategic implementation planning and change management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus and collaboration among interested parties in sometimes abstract situations without direct authority.
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative research, situation analysis, Council report writing and knowledge in project management methodology would be considered an asset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and political acumen.
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently with minimal supervision.

Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $45.53 - 60.86 per hour (2024 Rates)
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
