Position Overview

The Business Intelligence Analyst at Stella-Jones will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining SAP Datasphere & SAP HANA Deployment Infrastructure (HDI) database artifacts and Power BI Reports that support data-driven decision-making and drive business growth. This role will be hybrid (typically 2 to 3 days a week in office) based at our corporate HQ in Montreal (Saint-Laurent).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and understand business requirements, translating them into functional and technical specifications for SAP Datasphere, HDI solutions and Power BI.
  • Design, develop, and maintain SAP Hana Native Objects such as calculation views and SQL Scripts.
  • Design, develop, and maintain SAP Datasphere objects, including SAP BW Bridge Objects / Analytic Models / Views / Consumption Models / Perspectives / etc.
  • Design, develop, and maintain BI reports and dashboards including DAX development, Power Query, data modelling, and visualizations in Power BI.
  • Extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various SAP and non-SAP sources using SAP data extraction methods, such as LO Extractors, Generic Extractors, and ABAP routines and CDS Views.
  • Optimize the data warehouse performance by monitoring data loads, query performance, and system resources, implementing appropriate tuning measures when necessary.
  • Optimize Power BI Reports performance by monitoring Data loads and Dax/M Queries, implementing appropriate tuning measures when necessary.
  • Integrate SAP BW/DW Cloud with other SAP components, such as SAP Analytics Cloud, HANA, or BPC, to deliver comprehensive reporting and analytics solutions.
  • Ensure data quality and integrity by implementing and maintaining robust data validation processes, data archiving strategies, and error handling mechanisms.
  • Provide end-user support, training, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with other SAP team members, such as functional consultants, data architects, and ABAP developers, to ensure seamless integration of SAP BW solutions into the overall SAP landscape.

Qualifications

  • Three (3) or more years of experience in SAP BW/Hana development, with a strong focus on data modeling, ETL, and performance optimization, reporting, and dashboard creation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field; a Master's degree is a plus.
  • Understanding of data warehouse concepts, such as star schema, snowflake schema, and data modeling.
  • Proficient in SAP BW 7.x and modeling SAP HANA native objects (e.g., calculation views and SQL scripts), with experience in BW/4HANA or SAP Datasphere being a plus.
  • Proficient in Power BI/ DAX report development, data modeling, and visualization, with an understanding of data visualization techniques and data storytelling.
  • Solid knowledge of SAP data extraction methods, with familiarity in CDS views modeling, ABAP programming, and SAP integration technologies such as SAP Analytics Cloud or BPC.
  • Experience with programming languages like Python or R is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with an ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong expertise in navigating and extracting data from SAP systems, including the ability to identify relevant tables, understand data structures, and validate data accuracy. Must be capable of independently querying and analyzing SAP data (e.g., using SE16N, CDS views) to support BI reporting and analytics.
  • Proficient in SQL query techniques, including writing complex queries for data extraction, transformation, and validation. Must have experience with joins, subqueries, aggregations, and performance optimization in relational databases. Hands-on experience with SQL in SAP environments (such as HANA, BW, or SAP tables) is highly preferred.
  • English required; French is a plus.
