Fasken’s Business Development team has an immediate opening for a hands-on, results-oriented, experienced professional. As the Business Development Specialist (BDS), the successful candidate will enjoy a highly visible position providing international marketing and business development support to specific practice and industry groups. The BDS will work with lawyers across our Canadian and international offices to develop and execute a strategic business plan. Their focus will be on carrying out targeted marketing activities including effective client events, organizational affiliations and sponsorships, cross-practice initiatives, and other key projects.
Primary Responsibilities
- Working with the Practice/Industry Groups to develop their annual business plans and execute business plan initiatives throughout the year.
- Develop strategies and identify opportunities to promote the practice, increasing its visibility and positioning in the market.
- Coordinate and assist in the development of customized responses to pitches, RFPs/RFIs and other marketing collateral for new business opportunities and client meetings; assist in the assembly of and related tracking of pitches and presentations.
- Support lawyers to prepare them for business development meetings/trips with prospects, including identification of client targets/prospects, preparing appropriate collateral, as well as client and market intelligence.
- Conduct and analyze research and competitive analysis to identify opportunities to deepen existing client relationships, expand the client base, and increase external and internal visibility in the marketplace and business legal community, as appropriate.
- Coordinate deal collection efforts and maintain deal tracking system.
- Develop targeted, strategic submissions for practice-related rankings, surveys and awards, including Chambers, Legal 500 and other industry-specific/geographic awards programs.
- Facilitate cross selling initiatives with other firm practice groups.
- Participating on client-specific target teams.
- Leverage next gen CRM platform to track opportunities.
- Assist in tracking programming, revenue and expenses for reporting purposes.
- Project manage the coordination and distribution of thought leadership collaborating with marketing team requirements to successfully produce, distribute and promote thought leadership and communications.
- Work with digital marketing team to expand and drive social media engagement across practice teams and identified lawyers; strengthen practice team’s external presence and ongoing SEO performance on Fasken.com.
Required Knowledge And Experience
- 3+ years of experience in communications, marketing or professional services business development is preferred. Strong preference for candidates with legal or other professional services-related firm experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills necessary in English, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Detail-oriented, organized, proactive, self-directed and able to manage multiple projects, execute efficiently, and respect deadlines in a fast-paced, constantly changing, and demanding environment.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Excellent communication skills and creative thinking capabilities, with an ability to use both data and intuition to inform decisions.
- Proficiency with MS-Office (MS Word, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, Forms).
- Familiarity with production software an asset (Sitecore, Siteimprove, Power BI, Google Analytics).
- Experience using InterAction or other CRM tools a plus.
