About Scholars Thunder Bay:

Scholars of Thunder Bay is a business in the educational sector that provides exceptional quality tutoring programs to students in our community. Our individualized, hands-on tutoring programs are taught by certified teachers and tutors to help students of all ages and grade levels, including children with learning disabilities such as ADHD and dyslexia.

At Scholars, we provide flexible scheduling and highly effective tutoring programs that improve students’ self-esteem, grades, and overall performance in school. This opportunity is solely on-site and in-person for the full 52 weeks.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Are new entrants into the workforce, are transitioning to a new career, or the unemployed or underemployed who are entering a new field;
  • Have not previously participated in a NOHFC-funded internship;
  • Be at least 18 years of age; and
  • Reside, and be legally entitled to work, in Canada.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the CEO, the Business Development Intern assists in the development and management of marketing initiatives to attract and retain students and staff and raise community profile and manage communication between Agency and Families providing a high degree of service.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • A degree or diploma in marketing, communications, business or public relations or related field;
  • A good understanding of identifying target audience, developing customer personas, email marketing, content strategy, Facebook ads, Instagram ads, Google Ad Words, content marketing and social media marketing;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher;
  • Experience in digital content creation (ex. Videos, infographics, etc.);
  • Familiarity with PC and iOS platforms;
  • Print, digital and website design and layout;
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational, planning and time-management skills, including ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines;
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • Commitment to confidentiality in dealing with sensitive information of clients;
  • Impeccable written and oral communication skills;
  • The ability to be proactive and take the initiative;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to effectively communicate mission and initiatives of NSH to donors and other external stakeholders, and willingness to ask supporters for donations;
  • Work independently or as a team;
  • Have knowledge of social media and mobile devices and are not afraid of technology;
  • A creative spirit;
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

The Business Development Intern for Scholars Thunder Bay will play an integral role in the continued growth of the company in Northwestern Ontario. As the school system continues to change and experience challenges, Scholars is increasingly a much needed support to the children, families and school system to help build successful students.

The key duties of the proposed intern position include:

  • Social media marketing and management;
  • Community outreach;
  • Grow and oversee online tutoring program;
  • Lobby campaigns/contests;
  • Scheduling management for tutors and students;
  • Tutor support, training and leadership;
  • Communication liaison between agency and families;
  • Conduct student assessments;
  • Conduct parent conferences.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

Pay: From $27.50 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week

  • Evening shift;
  • Monday to Friday;
  • Weekends as needed.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree (required)
