Job description

The Building, Stops and Structures Technician is responsible for all planned and predictive maintenance for all facility equipment, including installing, troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing a variety of electrical and mechanical equipment. The BSST Technician is also responsible for the inspection of structures, facilities and grounds at LRT stops and shelter locations.

Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Diploma in an industrial trade or discipline, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, millwrighting, pneumatics, construction, electronics, or building automation. Equivalent qualifications or a combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  2. 2-5 Years’ experience working with building, electrical and mechanical systems.
  3. Trade certification preferred: Facilities Technician (255B), Electrician (442A), Refrigeration (313A), Gas Fitter (G2, G3), Plumbing (306A), Industrial Millwright (433A), and Fire Alarm (CFAA) Licenses are considered an asset.
  4. Building Environmental Systems – Operator (Class I,II) and/or 4th Class Power (Operating) Engineer (TSSA) certification is an asset.
  5. Joint Health and Safety Certification is considered an asset.
  6. Basic Microsoft Office and computer skills.
  7. Knowledge of Maximo and Computerised Maintenance Management System.
  8. Occupational Health and Safety knowledge.
  9. Experience with Johnson Controls, SCADA or BAS (Building Automation System) programming is preferred.
  10. Forklift, elevated platform and crane experience preferred.
  11. Experience in the rail transit or transportation industry is an asset.
  12. Strong analytical ability to diagnose and resolve practical issues.
  13. Able to read and understand schematics, operations, service and safety manuals.
  14. Strong attention to detail with a strong focus on quality and safety.
  15. Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently.
  16. Communicate clearly and concisely in English, both verbally and in writing.
  17. Self-starter to anticipate and resolve needs and requirements.
  18. Proven ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining safety and quality.
  19. Strong manual dexterity to use various hand tools and equipment.
  20. Able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds frequently.
  21. Able to climb, kneel and walk regularly, and work at heights.
  22. Able to work in all weather conditions, with exposure to live track/trains and high voltage.
  23. Able to work rotating shifts, including overtime and on-call requirements.
  24. Must have a valid G driver’s license with the ability to operate a vehicle.
  25. DZ license is an asset.
  26. Must be legally entitled to live and work in Canada.
