Budget Analyst

The Department of Finance has the mandate to provide leadership and direction to the public service in all areas of finance and human resource management. This mandate includes negotiating major financial arrangements with the federal government, providing analysis and advice to the Financial Management Board, and ensuring that financial and information resources are managed effectively, efficiently and economically. This mandate also includes the recruitment and retention of a competent public service that is representative of the people it serves and the development of programs and services that effectively serve the human resource needs of the public service.

Job Information

The Budget Analyst plays a key role in supporting the Departments of Finance and Executive and Indigenous Affairs. This position ensures proper resource allocation for the Departments' annual budgets, including Operations & Maintenance, Capital, and Revenue.

Key responsibilities include:

• Coordinating budgetary exercises
• Preparing variance reports and projections
• Collaborating with departmental staff, senior management, and central agency authorities

The role requires strong communication skills and adherence to externally established deadlines and the GNWT annual budget cycle.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

A Bachelor of Commerce or Business with a major in Finance or Accounting including two (2) years of relevant experience.

The following equivalencies will be accepted towards relevant years of experience:

• Budget Coordinators
• Managers of Finance or Budgeting

The following equivalencies will be accepted towards education:

• Business Diploma in Business Administration or Finance and Accounting with 6 years of experience
