Full time, Temporary, up to 20 months

Work Location: This position can be remote or hybrid anywhere in Ontario. The role is eligible for hybrid work (where our offices are located) – this means you’ll have the flexibility of working from home and in the office, on a scheduled rotation upon training completion.

General Accountability

The successful candidate is responsible for leading regional and national broker education and training programs that proactively seek to drive broker behavior and serve as a consistent central training resource for brokers. Collaborates with HR, subject matter experts (SMEs), and Business Development to design and develop content that is engaging, effective, and supports an optimal learner experience. Partners with external and internal business areas on assessing needs and establishing key learning initiatives and ensures alignment to business outcomes and the overall Broker Education strategy. This position manages and coordinates the continuous review and refinement of broker training programs to ensure adoption and accuracy. Responsible for delivering, monitoring, and measuring broker training programs for SGI, SGI CANADA, and Coachman. Works with internal broker support business areas to ensure brokers are utilizing SGI’s tools and resources to their fullest and provide feedback and opportunities for changes where there are barriers. A substantial amount of the work will be performed away from established headquarters and overnight stays will be required.

Key Accountabilities

Training Program Development (20%)

  • Leads regional broker training program development by collaborating with Human Resources, subject matter experts (SMEs), and other internal groups to identify content needs and support the creation of content and delivery materials.

  • Builds relationships with stakeholders/brokers to determine learning and development needs through information gathering, assessments, and analysis, and recommend learning solutions, in collaboration with HR, Broker Partnership Reps, and Broker Development Account Managers. Identifies broker training learning outcomes and ensure they meet business area Key Performance Indicators (KPIs); collaborates with SMEs and HR to source training content and key messaging for the development of training content and supporting materials.

  • Identifies and monitors regional and national training programs, understands gaps through assessing regional/national broker training needs and incorporates into training curriculums and strategy.

  • Partners with external trainers and third-party content providers in the development and delivery of training programs.

  • Identifies and develops relevant non-technical training material to support brokers with daily operational requirements and workflows.

  • Conducts site visits, secures venues, and coordinates logistics for in-person training sessions.

  • Oversees procurement and legal process for regional broker training contracts.

Training Delivery (25%)

  • Oversees the logistics, coordination and participants of broker training sessions.

  • Facilitates broker training sessions within assigned region using a variety of delivery methods (live, virtual, recorded self-study, and classroom).

  • Qualifies and delivers educational training sessions to brokers i.e., SGI CANADA products, programs, broker technological connectivity, broker professional development, customer experience, and proprietary soft skills content.

  • Prioritizes, plans, and provides onboarding training for current brokers, new broker appointments, or new broker hires to an existing office ensuring integration with key broker training programs.

  • Provides training recommendations tailored to broker needs and supports brokers in making informed decisions regarding SGI and SGI CANADA product and service training options.

  • Works with Corporate Business Development Administration (CBDA) in promotional communications to brokers on training programs and build awareness of training program benefits.

  • Plans and coordinates all logistics of training sessions (in-person, virtual, and web-based training) including negotiating pricing in booking venues for in-person training.

Training Program Efficiency Analysis and Post-Training Evaluation (15%)

  • Analyzes and prepares requests for information and distribution (training utilization by broker, session demand/uptake in region etc.).

  • Reviews and stays up to date with industry trends and market changes.

  • Collaborates with SMEs to build and gather training session evaluation feedback to aid in gaining insight into the effectiveness of the session and if the training is meeting business goals of the department.

  • Contributes to the development and monitoring of consistent evaluation metrics for all existing and new training programs to ensure the training meets broker and business objectives.

  • Monitors and audits all broker training program delivery for alignment to training standards, identifying training session efficiency opportunities and recommending alternative solutions for implementation.

  • Collaborates with Associations and Councils to qualify and accredit SGI CANADA offerings including reviewing content prior to submissions, ensuring accuracy and validating content regionally, and preparing outlines and summaries for approval.

Broker Training Administration Support (10%)

  • Collaborates with administrative support from CBDA team to provide a smooth registration experience, credit hour certificates, reporting and analytics, video edits on self-study sessions, posting of self-study to SGI CANADA University.

  • Supports and liaises with CBDA for all web applications, web content, third-party vendor solutions, portal, and interface used by brokers.

  • Monitors and reviews production issue logs to determine gaps and opportunities to identify and prioritize content for future training.

Relationship Management (10%)

  • Proactively plans for broker business learning and development needs by maintaining awareness and understanding of what is happening in the organization and building relationships with internal business partners.

  • Contributes to enhancing broker relationships through the collaborative development and implementation of training solutions in response to inquiries and broker business needs.

  • Supports relationship development with regional insurance broker associations by collaborating with senior leadership and other internal business areas in identifying and working on industry-related opportunities and initiatives.

  • Represents SGI/SGI CANADA at corporate and industry-related events.

Leadership (10%)

  • Actively contributes to and supports a culture of a high performing workforce.

Corporate Management (10%)

  • Enables the success of programs and policies that are in alignment with corporate, strategic, and divisional strategies.

  • Manages risk in area of authority.

  • Ensures that the Health, Safety and Emergency Management Policy is applied in area of responsibility.

Education & Experience

  • Two-year diploma from an accredited post-secondary education institution in Business or Education, or defined equivalency.

  • Working towards a certificate or designation in the field of adult education.

  • Valid driver's license in the appropriate driver classification in positions where required.

  • Three to five years’ experience in a senior technical insurance position, or training development and delivery in an insurance environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the property and casualty insurance market in assigned jurisdictions, including the independent broker distribution channel model.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of insurance, underwriting and claims policies and procedures and the various kinds of property and casualty insurance products and services (billing and technology) offered by the company.

  • Knowledge of adult education principles and instructional design methodologies including conducting training needs assessments and developing training sessions and materials.

  • Knowledge of managing projects and applying agile methodology.

  • Skill in use of computer software programs administered by Brokers.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).

  • Ability to facilitate web-based and classroom instructor-led training sessions.

  • Ability to prepare and deliver effective and engaging written and oral presentations targeted to the audience.
