The Headlines:
This Brewery Controller role is the key finance business lead at the Fraser Valley Brewery in Chilliwack, British Columbia. This role will support, provide guidance and be a proactive leader as part of the Brewery Management Team (BMT). This role will provide leadership with respect to effectively managing with the BMT all financial and accounting aspects for the brewery.
There is a strong focus on driving and evaluating cost savings initiatives and helping to maintain the controls surrounding capital assets and internal controls at the brewery locations. This role is responsible for the Cost Accounting and Balance Sheet for the brewery.
The Responsibilities:
- Driving Shareholder Value
- Operates as a proactive business partner in providing financial support, stewardship of key processes & controls, and leadership to the Brewery Management Team.
- Business partnering with the larger Corporate Molson Coors team including PTP, RTR, OTC, FP&A, Payroll/HR, Supply Chain Finance, Operations Finance, Commercial Finance.
- Evaluation and analysis of brewery business initiatives, including proactive identification of opportunities and other KPI metric calculations, with recommendation/communication to key business partners.
- Deliver cost accounting management reporting with emphasis on inventory control and Standard vs. Actual analysis.
- Assist with local union CBA support and analysis. Assist with property tax appeals.
- Financial Acumen coaching to the business (training non finance personnel on financial reports, terms, policies, etc.)
- As part of the BMT will be accountable for one of the Pillar of the World Class Supply Chain (WCSC) methodology.
- Lead SOX certification processes for Brewery operations & drive compliance with Corporate SOX internal control initiatives.
- Finance support on special projects as required.
- Manage Annual Operating Plan (AOP) Cost Targets and KPI (Key Performance Indicators)
- Development of detailed Short-Range Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and Long-Range Plan (LRP) costs in coordination with Operational leaders and Corporate Finance in a complex manufacturing environment. Including a detailed conversion cost build, variance analysis and presentations.
- Ensure delivery of the Brewery AOP working with the Brewery Management Team by developing opportunities and mitigating risks.
- Responsible for creating, evaluating & providing insights to the Brewery Management Team on World Class Supply Chain Finance KPI's.
- Provide leadership with respect to effectively managing with the Brewery Management Team all financial and accounting aspects for the brewery.
- Assist with the preparation of the annual capital plan and capital project forecasting and NPV analysis of key projects.
Development of People
- Responsible for the leadership and development for 1 direct report.
- Develop employee Goals & Personal Development Plans.
- Part of the Brewery Management Team and supporting people development at local site.
- Strong collaboration with remote managed service provider.
Quality of the Financial Close & Internal Controls
- Ensure month-end & quarter-end close processes are completed timely & accurately.
- Prepare financial period latest estimates + variance analysis and commentary for key variances from plan, LE & prior year.
- Perform balance sheet account reconciliations in accordance with MCBC's policies.
- Ensure all relevant policies for brewery operations are followed (including purchasing, payroll approvals, inventories, signature authorization, fixed assets etc.).
- Deliver excise tax monthly remittances and manage tax authority relationships, audits & queries.
- Lead quarterly SOX 302 certification process for Brewery Operations & drive compliance with SOX 404 internal controls.
- Responsible for ensuring leadership effectiveness of remote managed service provider staff who support reporting and accounting processes.
- Standardize & Share Best Practices across Canadian & North American Brewery Finance Teams.
- Submit monthly Excise Duty tax remittances and manage CRA tax authority relationships, audits and queries. Accountability for Internal Finance Audit.
The Other Qualifications:
- Requires a university degree and financial designation (CA, CMA, CGA, CPA etc.)
- Excellent Leadership, Interpersonal and Communication skills.
- Need to be flexible and customer service oriented.
- Cost Accounting in a standard cost SAP environment.
- ERP Knowledge, preferably SAP.
- 5-10 years manufacturing experience, including 3-5 years at management level position.
- Consumer Packaged Goods industry experience.
- Managing financial close processes and Accounting experience would be an asset.
- This role supports the brewery operations teams and requires being on-site.
