Job Description: Biomass Procurement Advisor
Pay Range: $60-$74/hrContract to Permanent (9-12 months)We are seeking a resourceful and motivated professional to join our procurement team as a Biomass Procurement Advisor. This Montreal-based role is a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of sustainable and renewable energy solutions through strategic sourcing of forest-based biomass materials.
As part of a collaborative team focused on environmental innovation and supply chain excellence, you'll manage wood fiber procurement (sawdust, pulpwood, logs, etc.) to support renewable industrial applications. This role offers hands-on experience, mentorship, and opportunities for long-term growth, with an intention for permanent placement after an initial contract period.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and carry out procurement strategies for the supply of wood fiber materials in Quebec, supporting long-term sustainability and decarbonization targets.
- Cultivate strong relationships with local and regional biomass suppliers to meet annual volume commitments and maintain consistent quality standards.
- Monitor market trends and regulations to optimize sourcing strategies and assess supplier performance.
- Ensure compliance with all provincial and federal forestry regulations, with a strong focus on Quebec-specific legislation.
- Introduce and enforce biomass certification protocols and quality assurance frameworks.
- Coordinate closely with internal stakeholders in operations, engineering, and energy strategy to align procurement with broader business plans.
- Act as a regional liaison, traveling frequently to supplier locations and operational sites, particularly around Thurso, QC.
- Support governance processes and procurement best practices, including documentation, reporting, and performance analysis.
- Background in either purchasing or selling forest products (e.g., sawdust, pulp, timber).
- Clear understanding of the regulatory environment affecting wood fiber transactions in Quebec.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in forestry, wood science, environmental sciences, or related fields; or comparable experience in biomass procurement/supply.
- 10+ years of experience in forestry operations, supply chain, or procurement within the biomass/wood fiber sector (less experienced candidates may be considered if strong in core responsibilities).
- Open to junior candidates who have experience either selling or buying wood fiber (wood, sawdust, pulp).
- Demonstrated negotiation and contract management experience.
- Working knowledge of commercial drivers in biomass markets.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Travel flexibility - ability to visit supplier and site locations regularly (Thurso and surrounding regions).
- Passion for environmental sustainability and interest in renewable energy markets.
