Dillon’s Environmental Sciences team is looking for a biologist to join our team in Fredericton or Saint John, New Brunswick. While this position is largely focused on clients and projects in Atlantic Canada, it will also include the potential to work on interesting projects across Canada.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead and conduct a variety of biophysical assessments supporting our clients in developing environmentally sustainable projects. You will be a part of establishing baseline environmental conditions and developing the protection measures that will be in place as the project evolves.

Responsibilities

What Your Day Will Look Like

Technical Practice

  • Travel to a variety of project sites ranging from undisturbed habitats to previously developed sites to conduct and lead the baseline biophysical evaluations. The assessments could include:
    • Terrestrial habitat surveys
    • Aquatic habitat surveys (including fish and fish habitat)
    • Wetland delineations and functional assessments
    • Bird and bird habitat surveys
    • Bat and bat habitat surveys
    • Vegetation surveys
  • Document your assessments to present a holistic view of the project sites.
  • Support the development of environmental protection measures, environmental monitoring programs, rehabilitation and off-setting projects including research, field work, and technical report writing.
  • Coordinate with other project team members toward the successful execution of projects with a positive, problem-solving attitude.

  • Continued development of technical skills across a variety of fields of biology.
  • Continued development of leadership skills and business acumen.
  • Contribution to the career development of less tenured staff, including technical direction and training recommendations.
  • Contribution to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees.

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

  • An undergraduate degree in biology, ecology or a related environmental sciences field.
  • A minimum of 1 year of demonstrated professional experience in environmental consulting, industrial, regulatory, or academic setting or related field with the specific emphasis on environmental assessment and permitting for development proposals.
  • Valid driver’s license (Class 5).
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, critical thinking, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in English. Working knowledge of French would be considered an asset.

Experience

  • Understanding and experience conducting terrestrial, aquatic, wetland, wildlife, vegetation, birds and/or bats surveys. Specific experience in the Atlantic region is an asset.
  • Knowledge of relevant provincial and federal environmental legislation, regulations, policies, guidelines, and regulatory permitting and approval requirements.
  • Experience in executing field programs as part of environmental assessments.
  • Commitment to project quality and capability of meeting project deadlines.
