The successful candidate will join our dynamic wildlife team, monitoring wildlife occurrences on a renewable project in the Medicine Hat region.
Starting on May 5, 2025, and running until November 14, 2025, this hourly contract position offers a unique chance to contribute to important wildlife monitoring efforts. What you can expect to do here:
- You will conduct post-construction bird and bat mortality monitoring at operating wind power projects.
- You will lead wildlife post-construction monitoring surveys, baseline wildlife surveys, and other field-related tasks.
- You will carry out fieldwork.
- You will write detailed and informative field reports, focusing on data accurately and efficiently.
What you will bring to WSP:
- Ideally, you will have 2 years of experience conducting migratory bird surveys and field experience with diligent observation skills.
- Familiarity with prairie birds (i.e., songbirds, waterfowl, shorebirds, raptors).
- Experience with digital data collection, data management, and equipment setup (e.g., bat detector deployment) is desired.
- Attention to detail regarding data collection and documentation, and Quality Assurance and Quality Control.
- Willingness to participate in fieldwork and handle bird and bat carcasses for species identification purposes.
- Construction monitoring experience is an asset, but not necessary.
- A valid driver's license is required, and First Aid/CPR is an asset.
- A biological degree or technical diploma is also an asset.
