Job description

We’re excited to launch a new state-of-the-art robotic homebuilding plant in partnership with several large homebuilders within the Greater Calgary Region. Powered by Promise Robotics' transformative production lines for timber-based panelized construction, the new plant enables our group of homebuilding partners to significantly increase the capacity and speed of home production within the fast-growing region of Calgary, AB.

We’re looking for a highly talented BIM Modeller to join our team and oversee the development of production drawings in line with production timelines and ensuring compliance with codes and guidelines. The BIM Modeller constitutes a link between production and design at Promise Robotics and connects with customers, vendors, software suppliers, machinery and technology suppliers to ensure the highest standard of drafting performance and to support effective operation of the Company.


What you will do:
  • Generates three-dimensional design models of structures and spaces using digital technology such as Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, or AutoCAD.
  • Model wood framing elements in Revit using MWF or other solutions to produce detailed drawings for production.
  • Set up and coordinate projects in Autodesk Construction Cloud or other BIM Management systems as per production guideline and requirements.
  • Acts as liaison between clients and the design team and assures the highest level of collaboration is achieved.
  • Understands and utilizes BIM software to integrate the various aspects of a building's construction, including architectural, structural and MEP.
  • Develop and maintain supporting documentation, instructions, guidelines, or checklists in alignment with production workflow requirements as well as partners' specifications and project schedules.
  • Ongoing development of client-specific BIM templates (Revit, MWF, etc.)
  • Oversee the design and preparation of production drawings for all structures with an emphasis on value engineering in preparation for the manufacturing process.
  • Review production data with regards to specification, design and errors or omissions.
  • Update settings, master data and program handling solutions for changes required by construction or production departments. Provide updates based on new versions of the software and its new functionalities.
  • Coordinate with architectural drafters, floor and roof truss designers, production department, estimating, construction, plumbing, HVAC and electrical trades as well as affected departments for feedback on design, manufacturing and construction issues.
  • Provide technical support for Production and Construction departments.
  • Participate in engineering meetings and develop engineering changes. Implement approved changes in the workflow as well as in the computer programs if necessary. Initiate software updates of CAD, CAM and production software if required.
  • Ensure designs meet or exceed the building code requirements. Interpret and implement building code changes, as required.
  • Manages and updates models and design data and ensures BIM data is available to construction teams.
  • Ensure job specific production drawings are accurate and completed in a timely manner based on production schedule and construction requirements.
  • Interpret information packages from customers, recognize errors, omissions and deficiencies and pursue further clarification as required.
  • Participate in client presentations/ coordination meetings in the form of 3D digital walkthroughs.
What you will need to succeed:
  • Architectural Technology Diploma, Structural Designer Diploma or Architectural Degree required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of professional Autodesk product use and support (Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud).
  • Experience with Wood Framing programs such as MWF and AGACAD is an asset.
  • Experience in designing single family and/or multi-family residential projects.
  • Knowledge of new home construction with an understanding of the fundamentals of residential wood frame construction practices, techniques, and conventions.
  • Knowledge of building codes.
  • Knowledge of Computer structural design programs such as Mitek and Alpine is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience of BIM implementation in the AEC industry is an asset.
  • Ability to solve abstract problems and propose solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously and maintain timing deadlines.
