Job Description

Our partner company is looking for an Employment and Labor Law Paralegal who is responsible for conducting research, assisting with and organizing case files for cases involving labor disputes, terminations, discrimination, health and safety issues, or workers compensation. They draft legal correspondence and assist with the preparation of legal briefs and documents, interview employees or witnesses, and collect information from third parties as required.

Additionally, they conduct due diligence research and monitor provincial employment law developments that impact organizational policy, prepare non-financial regulatory compliance filings, and conduct data analysis in support of Management and business needs.

Some of your responsibilities include:

  • Assist managers in mediation and judicial dispute resolutions
  • Research records, case files, and other legal documents
  • Assemble documentary evidence and prepare trial briefs
  • Draft legal correspondence and perform general office duties
  • Interview clients and witnesses
  • Provide legal administrative support by drafting and proofreading various documents
  • Liaise with courts and tribunals, maintain and organize files
  • Attend arbitration, mediation hearings, and collective bargaining negotiations
  • Prepare non-financial regulatory compliance filings and conduct due diligence research
  • Monitor legislative requirements and recommend updates to HR policies
  • Analyze data from various sources to create business-facing deliverables
  • Provide data and analysis in response to requests from Senior Management
  • Participate on cross-functional teams and other special projects
Qualifications
  • Post-Secondary Degree, Diploma or Certificate in a relevant area of study and holding a designation such as CHRP or relevant legal designation (lawyer or paralegal). A combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Minimum three years of experience in HR compliance/case management
  • Minimum three years of experience in employment and labour field
  • Minimum three years of recent labour/employment law experience
  • Knowledge of industry trends, developments, and employment-related laws in Ontario and Quebec
  • Knowledge of basic statistical math with the ability to create mathematical formulas within Microsoft Excel or other systems to support data analysis
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Secret level Clearance
  • Self-Management - Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently to achieve results
  • Familiarity working with the HRTO, WSIB, MOL and arbitration and collective bargaining procedures
  • Bilingual is mandatory
  • Some travel required
