PCL’s Business Technology group’s EIS (Enterprise Information & Security) team enables measurable and material business outcomes using a valuable asset: data. The EIS team is seeking a BI & Analytics Developer at our North American Headquarters, located in Edmonton, Alberta. The BI & Analytics Developer is a data expert who transforms raw data into business insights that support decision-making across all levels of the organization. The primary focus of this role is the design, development, and implementation of reporting and analytical content using data from PCL’s business applications. The ideal candidate possesses hands-on experience in reporting and analytics development, ETL, and data modeling. This is an hourly, contract position.

Here's how a(n) BI and Analytics Developer for our Edmonton NAHQ office contributes to our team:

Responsibilities

  • Translate business needs to design, develop, and maintain production reports and dashboards
  • Acquire data from a variety of structured and unstructured data sources
  • Design and develop business data models to support self-service BI and analytics
  • Develop and maintain ETL/ELT processes
  • Create and maintain technical documentation
  • Define test plans and execute test cases to ensure BI content processes meet quality assurance standards
  • Ensure BI content follows and meets PCL’s data governance and security policies
  • Liaise with business, technology, and support teams to ensure business requirements are met

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in computer science (or equivalent education)
  • The candidate has 3+ years of design and development experience in business intelligence, data management, and data modeling
  • Extensive hands-on experience with data visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI is preferred
  • Extensive hands-on experience with ETL development
  • Solid understanding of data modeling and relational database design and implementation techniques
  • Experience in UI/UX development as it applies to dashboard and report design
  • Excellent problem-solving and data-analysis skills
  • Experience in the complete software development lifecycle (SDLC) including requirements analysis, design, development, QA, maintenance, and CI/CD and version control tools
  • Effective communication and writing skills necessary to effectively lead technical discussions and information-gathering sessions
  • In addition to the technical skills listed above, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualities:
    o Positive, can-do attitude, enthusiastic, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple development projects simultaneously
    o Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, be flexible, stay organized, and maintain attention to detail and accuracy
