Backend Services Engineer

As a Backend Services Engineer, you will support the team by developing, deploying and maintaining back-end services. You will leverage your extensive knowledge of distributed systems, microservices, containerized build and deployment pipelines to help define best practices and enable other developers to contribute to our suite of service APIs. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable writing RESTful APIs in Python as spinning up services in Docker containers, and has a strong desire to build useful foundations for other team members to build upon.

• Architect, design, build and deploy complex services and APIs to be used by other parts of the VFX pipeline and development team
• Gather requirements across large collaboration efforts that span multiple departments and/or disciplines
• Write technical briefs and user documentation
• Partner with software development leadership and pipeline team to identify and schedule tasks

• Expert in Python development
• Experience designing and developing services and APIs in a scalable and maintainable way
• Familiarity with automated build and deployment systems in Gitlab or similar
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration systems
• Knowledge of SQL and ability to author schemas
• Familiarity with VFX Pipelines and production needs
• Experience with event queuing and consumption services such as Kafka or RabbitMQ
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

This salary range is specific to applicants applying to our position in Vancouver, BC. To determine your base salary, we consider your qualifications, skills, and experience. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary outside of this range and will also be dependent on your location.
