JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of AZ Truck Driver.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Supply Chain, this position is responsible to operate heavy duty vehicles to transport radioactive (Class 7) and non-radioactive materials and other Dangerous Goods between nuclear generating facilities and private industrial facilities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Safely and competently operate heavy duty vehicles to transport radioactive and non-radioactive materials, Dangerous Goods, and equipment in compliance with the pertinent regulations and procedures.
  • Perform tasks associated with the provision of a carrier (road transportation) service. Applies load securement devices and coverings in accordance with the applicable regulations and procedures.
  • Maintain fitness for duty in order to perform all of these duties consistent with the work requirements and having regard for his/her safety and the ability to protect the safety/security of other station/corporate personnel and the public.
  • Perform trip inspections on assigned vehicles in compliance with the applicable regulations and procedures. Document and report vehicle and equipment deficiencies.
  • Maintain an accurate, detailed and legible driver duty log to ensure regulatory compliance with the Highway Traffic Act and other applicable legislation.
  • Perform duties normally associated with warehouse support up to the level trained, as required.
  • Direct other personnel assigned to assist with loading/unloading duties. This may include employees of companies external to OPG. Perform maintenance activities not requiring formal trades training & qualifications.
  • Perform the carrier response functions in the event of a transportation emergency in accordance with the applicable regulations and procedures.
  • Accountable for the health, safety and well being of self and others, in accordance with technical/ operating procedures and standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school or equivalent plus short courses related to commercial vehicle safety, regulatory compliance and vehicle dynamics management.
  • Minimum of 3 years verifiable heavy truck (tractor-trailer or equivalent) operating experience with at least one year of which involves the transportation of Dangerous Goods.
  • A current MTO Driver’s Record Search (driver’s abstract) showing no violations is required at the time of application.
  • AZ license is required
  • Preference given to individuals with Forklift experience
  • Ability to work from heights (climbing ladders, scaffolding, stairs)
  • Flexibility to work shifts and overtime if required
  • Proficient skills with desktop and onboard computers, trip recorders, onboard GPS and telecommunications equipment.
