Description
My client is seeking an experienced AVP, Surety (Large & International Contractors) to manage and grow a portfolio of contract surety business, focusing on both international and large domestic contractors.
Position: AVP, Surety (Large & International Contractors)
Location: Toronto, hybrid (flexibility on location within Canada)
Responsibilities:
- Strategically grow the large domestic and international contract surety book of business.
- Lead and assist Surety staff in underwriting larger Contract Surety accounts, including those that exceed line and branch authority limits. Provide mentorship and decision-making support.
- Act as a subject matter expert on P3 (Public-Private Partnerships), Progressive Design Build, and Alliance Model projects, providing guidance to branches as needed.
- Lead special projects and committees as required by the senior leadership team, contributing to the company's strategic direction.
- Submit reinsurance packages to lead reinsurance partners when required.
- Manage relationships with brokers, reinsurers, clients, co-surety partners, and legal experts.
- Lead underwriting decisions for complex accounts and provide actionable recommendations.
- Regular financial performance and operational reviews of the Large & International Surety portfolio.
- Perform portfolio analytics and deliver monthly presentations on performance.
- Manage key broker and contractor relationships, ensuring strong and productive engagements.
- Oversee the review and action plans for outstanding receivable listings.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience in Surety underwriting, particularly with large contractors.
- Extensive knowledge of the construction industry, governance, business risk, finance, and reinsurance.
- Proven ability to manage a portfolio worth over $10M in premiums, ensuring strong profitability metrics.
- Strong strategic thinking with the ability to think outside the box.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to build trust and credibility with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
- University degree required. Designation in Surety or related field is an asset.
