Job description

The Avionics/Electronics Aircraft Mechanic II is responsible for:

  • Performing maintenance checks on aircraft flight controls, stabilization systems, avionics, and controlled cryptographic equipment.

  • Maintaining common/special tools and equipment.

  • Troubleshooting equipment and diagnosing repairs.

  • Maintaining and testing avionics and electrical systems with integration of complex software and hardware, including electrical power generation and distribution systems, integrated avionics systems and displays, communication and navigation systems, mission equipment integration, sensors, and vehicle health monitoring systems.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid up-to-date A&P license, two (2) years aviation maintenance experience, three (3) years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two (2) years on the assigned (H60) MDS.

  • If no A&P license, must have three (3) years aviation maintenance experience, three (3) years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two (2) years on the assigned (H60) MDS.

  • All experience must be within the five (5) most recent years.

  • Must have a working knowledge of making entries in aircraft logbooks & records, military technical publications, and the Army's Unit Level Logistics Aviation Information System, ULLS-A(E).

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at the work location.

  • Possess a valid US Passport.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures, and replacement of parts.

  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, and micrometers.

  • Working knowledge of technical publications and Logistics Information Systems.

  • Able to prioritize workloads to maintain schedules on assigned projects.

  • Participate in maintenance test flights and operation checks as required.

  • Able to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks.

  • Possess the level of experience to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by Mechanics.

  • The incumbent receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician, and may be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.

  • Frequently lift parts and equipment up to 20 pounds.

  • Occasionally lift objects up to 50 pounds.

  • Most heavy lifting is accomplished through the use of mechanical devices.

  • May work in aircraft maintenance hangar or outside.

  • May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.

  • May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft.

  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts.
