Automation Engineering Manager

SAMCO has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Automation Engineering Manager to build a client-facing team that will directly interface with customers to understand their challenges, propose solutions, and implement custom solutions by working closely with SAMCO Engineering, Program Management, and Finance teams to deliver profitable projects and highly satisfied customers. We are seeking a hands-on automation leader who will take charge of current projects of controls systems design, assembly, testing, and start-up commissioning using, but not limited to, Allen Bradley, Schneider, Bosch, and Siemens PLC.

Job Duties:

1. Document customer requirements via face-to-face meetings or technical documents, collaborate and lead with internal teams to review the requirements and project details.
2. Facilitate and lead hardware/software design using established standards and resources as required.
3. Effectively communicate the status of projects to customers and management.
4. Lead by example and coach team members in the commissioning and testing of all systems defined under the scope of work. Validate complete system functionality and troubleshoot issues with contractors and/or customers to ensure proper operation.
5. Provide project-specific training for machine operators as required.
6. Assist in the development of system operation manuals and training material based on project deliverables.
7. Provide coaching and mentoring to junior resources and share experience and knowledge in a collaborative environment.
8. Maintain awareness of new and emerging technologies and potential applications.
9. Develop programming estimates to support cost estimation for quoting.
10. Ensure all documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately upon project completion.
11. Track “lessons learned” on projects and share the information with the engineering and sales teams.

Education:

1. BS Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent preferred).
2. 10+ years direct hands-on work experience designing, programming, testing, and commissioning advanced control systems mainly in industrial machinery or related industries.

Knowledge:

1. Possesses advanced knowledge and thorough understanding in the areas of control system integration, application programming, and system design.
2. Background in electrical and instrumentation wiring and troubleshooting.
3. Knowledge of the applicable Ontario or Canadian Electrical Codes.
