Location : Hybrid - Kingston or York Mills / Greater Toronto Area

The Audit Services team is growing at Empire Life, and as a result, we’re looking to hire Auditors to join the existing team! This is a great opportunity to join a growing team while being provided the opportunity to make an impact. As an Auditor, you will conduct assessments of internal controls, risk assessments, reviews of risk areas, and monitoring internal compliance. You will be responsible for performing moderately complex internal audits as part of the internal audit plan including the development of scope, performing procedures, and preparation of reports. The incumbent is guided by defined goals and objectives and works under the moderate supervision of the Manager, Audit Services.

What you’ll be working on

  1. Perform internal audits determining objective and scope and raise identified issues to management for remediation.
  2. Perform internal control testing, evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls and raise identified issues to management for remediation.
  3. Ensure assigned testing is complete in accordance with departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines; according to the schedule using data analytics and automation.
  4. Produce high-quality documentation on a timely basis for audit management and external auditors.
  5. Identify opportunities to improve the economy, efficiency, and effectiveness of business processes and make recommendations to senior management.
  6. Collaborate with senior management in the follow-up of open and past due internal audit findings.
  7. Act as a coach/mentor for junior or temporary employees.

Work on projects as required

  1. Develop and maintain productive relationships with Empire Life employees/management.
  2. Attend and participate in continuing professional education classes and training courses.
  3. Ensure compliance with the Global Internal Audit Standards of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).

What we’re looking for you to have

  1. Completion of college/university with specialization in audit, financial and managerial accounting or a combination of education and work experience.
  2. 0-3+ years work experience in auditing or a related field.
  3. Familiarity with data analytics and data visualization (Power BI, Python).
  4. Knowledge of Microsoft Suite applications, and basic coding.
  5. Knowledge of internal control techniques and internal audit procedures.
  6. Knowledge of contract interpretation.
  7. CPA and/or CIA designation or in progress.
  8. Strong verbal and written communication skills, and ability to present information clearly to a diverse audience.
  9. Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
