POSITION OVERVIEW As an Audit Specialist, you will respond to CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) queries on behalf of our Members. This includes contacting the Member for information and keeping the Member and the auditor informed at every stage of the audit. Timely turnaround of information, knowledge of the income tax act, and how tax laws impact the audit is key to success in this role. Additionally, you will work closely with our Operations Team to gather essential information and gain a clear understanding of our Members’ claims.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Ensuring the Member pays the least amount of tax possible by providing the required documentation and presenting well-founded arguments citing applicable tax law.
  2. Working within CRA deadlines.
  3. Negotiating counter proposals with the CRA and filing Notice of Objection when an agreement could not be reached with the auditor.
  4. Keeping the Operations Team, Member, and the CRA informed on each step in the process.

WHAT YOU BRING

  3. Time Management: Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and meet deadlines.
  4. Digital Tech Literacy: Using internal databases, accounting software, and researching tax laws and case history.
  5. Team Spirit: A collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Post-secondary education in accounting or business.
  2. 2+ years of experience preparing tax returns for farm and/or business owners.
  3. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  4. Experience working with tax preparation and bookkeeping software; TaxPrep and Xero are considered an asset.
