The Opportunity
Reporting to the Audio-Visual Supervisor, this position functions as a key resource responsible for leading and/or facilitating audio visual (AV) services required to implement all aspects of AV related operations and projects throughout SAIT’s campuses.
The role works in collaboration with ITS leadership to secure resources in the delivery of AV at SAIT, as well as acting as a liaison with vendors, reviewing system requirements, troubleshooting system issues, and ensuring technology integrations are seamless.
They are responsible for providing a broad range of complex audio visual and media services at SAIT, including, but not limited to, classrooms and meeting rooms. This includes developing and using information management, planning, operational, and record keeping systems required to support, track, and organize the planning and development activities of AV operations.
The Role
- Installing and maintaining proprietary AV operating systems (Crestron, Extron, Kramer, etc.) including loading and modifying the OS and related algorithms as well as implementation of hardware drivers including integrating third party products.
- Installing and maintaining proprietary AV hardware systems (Crestron, Extron, Kramer, etc.) including firmware loading and testing to ensure compatibility, security and functionality.
- Use specialty tools, including: Toolbox, Simpl Windows, DM NVX, XiO, Toolbelt, Global Configurator Plus, GUI Configurator, Extron PCS, GC3 and ShareLink Pro.
- Produce new modules and user interfaces for system implementation, maintaining a simple and easy to use standard for SAIT use.
- Gathering design requirements for new system and implementation of AV control for existing systems to meet classroom and meeting room needs or modify existing systems as required.
- Provide expert-level support for AV related issues, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, and ensuring swift resolutions to minimize downtime.
- Perform commissioning and acceptance testing of system functionality, including team follow up for any required training.
- Staging and maintaining AV demo systems and related equipment for testing, development, demonstrations, and proof of concepts. This includes maintaining the staged systems to always ensure functionality.
- Creating as-built technical documents and technical reference information that outlines the operational details of all complex SAIT AV systems.
- Creating service tickets (SAIT/Vendors/Manufacturers) to deal with support issues, defective equipment and other troubleshooting activities.
- Mounting/unmounting hardware, such as switchers, controllers, PCs, monitors, projectors, screens, TVs, etc. and staging new AV systems for deployment, including assembly, installation, cabling and fully testing for operational function.
- Working directly with clients, staff and coworkers in an effective, professional and friendly fashion that promotes good will.

- Exploring new AV products and services.
- Occasional travel to our other campus locations is required with this role.
Education & Experience
- Minimum:
- 2-year diploma in the field of Broadcast Technology, Information Technology, Programming, computer management or related technical area.
- 2 years’ experience in AV support that includes Crestron, Extron and Kramer devices.
- 2 years’ experience in AV programming that includes Crestron, Extron and Kramer devices.
- Experience with low voltage system wiring, including RS232 and Low-Z.
- Basic knowledge of how to read and follow construction diagrams and work orders.
- Excellent knowledge of installation techniques and the related power tools.
- Excellent track record of working safely according to all workplace safety guidelines.
- Combinations of AV service experience and education will be considered.
- Preferred:
- 4-year bachelor’s degree in the field of Broadcast Technology, Information Technology, Programming, computer management or related technical area.
- 4 years’ experience in AV programming that includes Crestron, Extron and Kramer devices.
- Read and interpret AV systems drawings.
- Gather programming requirements.
- Demonstrate completed system to client.
- Create programming-related documentation.
Qualifications, Certifications or Designations
- Minimum:
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Extensive experience with control system design (Crestron/Extron/Kramer/AMX).
- Programming certifications, such as CTI-P101, Extron, Kramer Control or AMX.
- Preferred:
- ITIL Foundations.
- CTS (Certified Technology Specialist).
Skills Required
- Proficient with test and calibration equipment.
- Proficient in programming languages.
- Proficient in uploading and downloading software in embedded systems.
- Proficient in control system design (Crestron/AMX/Extron).
- Understanding computers and networking.
- Strong ability to troubleshoot successfully.
- Ability to drill into walls and slab to mount equipment.
- Strong communication, both written and verbal.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Salary Range: $66,000.00 - $85,000.00
