Associate Vice-President, Marketing Communications
Location: This position will be in-office, based out of our Toronto location.
Type: This is an in-office Full-Time 12-months Term position.

The opportunity:
Reporting to the Vice-President, Marketing, the Associate Vice-President, Marketing Communications oversees the strategic leadership and operations of Wellington-Altus’ external communications team. This role collaborates with the Vice-President, Marketing to design and execute high-impact communication strategies that elevate the firm's brand reputation and presence.
The Associate Vice-President, Marketing Communications champions the development and implementation of tactical processes, policies, and best practices, ensuring consistency and excellence in external messaging. By driving the creation of compelling, multi-platform content, the incumbent plays a pivotal role in amplifying brand awareness, strengthening stakeholder engagement, and positioning Wellington-Altus as a leader in the wealth management industry.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing integrated communications strategies in partnership with marketing and corporate stakeholders to support overall team and firm goals to drive measurable impact internally and externally.
- Overseeing and enhancing the organization’s media engagement strategy, cultivating relationships with key journalists and media outlets. Proactively and reactively manage media inquiries, develop briefing materials, and secure opportunities for positive media coverage to amplify the firm's reputation and visibility.
- Presenting plans, taking feedback, and discussing recommendations to various audiences, including senior leadership, with confidence and professionalism.
- Providing strategic counsel on critical files within and outside of Marketing. Acting as a Communications lead for crisis situations and issues management.
- Proactively identifying and supporting opportunities for executive leaders to build recognition and reputation with internal and industry audiences.
- Helping drive the Wellington-Altus narrative through proactive content planning and execution for internal and external audiences.
- Collaborating with subject matter experts on thought leadership pieces.
- Shaping and overseeing best-in-class processes to drive consistency and support key stakeholders internally.
- Helping evolve and endorse media policies to mitigate risk and strengthen brand reputation externally.
- Overseeing corporate announcements, managing and contributing to special projects within Marketing and with stakeholders in Technology, Risk & Compliance, Advanced Wealth Planning, etc.
- Leading and mentoring two direct reports, fostering a collaborative and supportive culture.
- Providing clear direction, ongoing feedback, and professional development opportunities to support individual growth and team objectives.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A bachelor’s degree or diploma in communications, or a related field of study.
- A minimum of 10 years’ relevant work experience in Communications or related field, preferably in the wealth management or other regulated industry is a strong asset.
- Experience working directly with senior executives.
- Experience using newswire services and media monitoring, tracking and reporting tools.
- Proficiency with the MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
- A strong understanding of the finance industry and ability to develop content for various audiences.
- Creativity, strong writing and editing skills.
- Strong people management and relationship-building skills.
- An ability to work independently in a high-demand and fast-paced environment.
- An ability to work within ambiguity and flexible to shifting deadlines.
- An ability to work with executives and under confidential circumstances.
Conditions of employment:
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Must be able to travel approximately 0-5% of the time.
