CAD 125,000 - 150,000
Job description

Are you an experienced Electrical Power and/or Control Engineer, ready for your next challenge? If so, then this fantastic opportunity at our Gaithersburg campus could be what you have been looking for!

At AstraZeneca, we’re not afraid to do things differently. We’re resetting expectations of what a bio-pharmaceutical company can be. This means we’re opening up new ways to work, pioneering cutting-edge methods, and bringing unexpected teams together. To develop life-changing medicines we approach problems in a different way – agile and forward-thinking, and focused on what our people need to make groundbreaking discoveries.

Business Area:

Global Engineering and Real Estate (GERE) works closely with the Operations, R&D, and Commercial functions within AstraZeneca to deliver major capital investments for the company (typically over $10 million). The capital expansion program involves the engineering, construction, and qualification of both new and growing assets. In addition to the asset provision activities, Global Engineering supports the Business by providing technical support to sites and other global functions. Global Engineering is made up of a mixture of Project Managers, Project Control Specialists, Project Technical Managers, and Subject Matter Experts. These positions fit into project teams and work directly with third-party design and construction partners to deliver facilities that meet AstraZeneca’s requirements for safety, quality, time, and cost.

This exciting role within Global Engineering will be centered on working either within project teams or on your own initiative in support of overseeing the design, installation, and commissioning of Electrical & Control systems within the North America region. Approximately 20% of your time will be spent traveling within the North America region.

Responsibilities:

  1. As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in electrical engineering, your technical knowledge and experience will enable you to prioritize your efforts into areas of high risk, to review and comment on designs effectively, and to quickly resolve any issues which may arise. Stakeholder engagement and management is key to the success of this position.
  2. You'll work closely with Project Managers and Project Technical Managers to ensure the technical scope of any projects align with both business and project needs. You'll be involved in setting technical direction for the design work carried out by external consultants and contractors.
  3. Responsible for evaluating the technical competence of design and construction contractors supporting the Project Manager in their selection for projects.
  4. You'll provide engineering technical support for AstraZeneca due diligence projects, ensuring that standards, processes, and validations are all appropriate and that technical learnings are captured and disseminated post project completion.
  5. You'll be involved in multiple projects concurrently and will need to effectively communicate with clients/end users and designers to ensure efficient technical solutions are provided.

Essential requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and 10 years of overall engineering experience with a demonstrated ability (5 years min) in the Pharmaceutical Industry or similar.
  • Experienced in the specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning of electrical/control systems in the pharmaceutical R&D and Operations environment (or other comparable industries such as chemical, oil/gas, healthcare, automated manufacturing, etc).
  • Working understanding of relevant industry codes and standards, such as process and machinery functional safety systems, and hazardous (classified) areas (NFPA 497 & 499).
  • Experience working as part of a capital project delivery team from feasibility through to project execution and handover.
  • Proficient communicator (written and verbal) in English.
  • Strong influencing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative but also able to have strong team interaction skills.
  • Flexible and with the ability to work under pressure at times.
