Reporting to the Dean of Skilled Trades & Apprenticeship, the incumbent will be responsible for providing academic, financial and strategic planning leadership in the electrical, motive power and elevating device programs, as well as apprenticeship offerings.
Responsibility for these programs includes the supervision and management of full and part-time Faculty and Support Staff, the quality of education provided to over 1000 students, and the distribution of and use of all resources in the department. In addition, this position will have an emphasis on outreach to the community, business and industry for the purposes of promoting positive community relations, partnerships and work integrated learning in the community.
This position will also require the participation and leadership to engage faculty and enhance the learning experience for students.
The incumbent will also be responsible for providing leadership in project management for key activities within their area as well as supporting the faculty in the planning, development, delivery and on-going review of the strategic plan to ensure the programs are aligned with student and employer needs.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership and management skills within a complex organization. They will be adept at implementing programs and services that address current and future education and training needs while providing leadership in curriculum and academic policy development. A commitment to collaboration and alignment with Mohawk College’s Vision, Mission, Values, and Strategic Directions is essential.
The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, with a Master’s degree considered an asset. They should have extensive experience in teaching, coordination, or management within post-secondary education, along with significant industry experience. A background in skilled trades and apprenticeship is also considered an asset.
This role requires administrative or management experience, preferably in the community college system or community services field, with knowledge of issues affecting skilled trades and apprenticeship. The candidate must be highly organized, able to multitask, and possess excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
Experience fostering partnerships, working within a unionized environment, and collaborating across multiple stakeholders is essential. The incumbent will also work closely with other Associate Deans across the College.
