The Associate plays an essential role in supporting the activities of the Corporate Finance team and will broadly support the firm in achieving its overall business goals. The Associate will focus on analysis and reporting for the General Partner (GP).

Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Finance, the Associate will be an integral member of the Corporate Finance team and will focus on corporate accounting and reporting.

Job Details

Annual compensation: CAD $91,658 to $105,000 annually (To be negotiated)/44 hours per week

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or relevant field; professional accounting or finance designation (CPA, CFA) considered an asset but not required.

Experience: 2-3 years of relevant experience working in a finance department; preferably in the Private Equity or Investment Management industry.

Main Duties:

  • Responsibility of day-to-day operations for the management company and other corporate entities including full cycle corporate accounting.
  • Produce monthly reporting packages including financial statements, intercompany billing, and cash forecasts.
  • Assist with federal, provincial, and foreign tax preparation.
  • Participate in the management company audit process including the preparation of audited financial statements and note disclosures.
  • Assist with department strategic projects and initiatives.
  • Monitor and track intercompany loans and daily cash activity.
  • Assist with implementation of new projects and systems.
  • Help identify and implement solutions which improve efficiency and effectiveness through the elimination, simplification, and automation of processes.
  • Partner with the Technology team to automate existing reports and develop new reporting and analytics that leverage Dawson’s cloud database and analytical tools (Excel, Tableau, SOT).

Required Skills and Capabilities:

  • 2-3 years of relevant experience working in a finance department; preferably in the Private Equity or Investment Management industry.
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship building and verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with multiple stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
  • A problem-solver with strong business acumen and technical expertise guided by an entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to embrace a changing environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and with a mindset for automation and efficiency.
  • Ability to interface and maintain effective relationships with teams and employees across all levels.
  • Ability to multitask, meet pressing deadlines and make sound decisions based on priorities and risks.
  • Highly ethical, impartial, diplomatic, respectful, flexible, organized, adaptable, patient, and accountable.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
